Did anyone else notice that this book changed titles? The original is "Dawn and the Big Sleepover." It was reissued and now it's "Dawn's Big Sleepover." I might have those reversed, but I'm pretty sure "Dawn's Big Sleepover" is the newer one. I have both - not on purpose. I just happened to be going through my books the other day and noticed this. Never knew that. I have the first edition, with the garish orange cover. It was always easy to glance at the bookshelf and identify it right away in a sea of otherwise pastel-colored BSC books.

^ I never noticed that, either. I'm going to have to dig out my copy and see which one I have! I have very clear memories of reading this one during the summer that I was 11. Not sure if that's when it came out, but I KNOW that's when I read it.

Both copies are that awful orange color. One might be a little brighter than the other, but it's still a weird orange.

^ At least the color wasn't used for other books.

I always thought the color was pretty. It's not little girl-y.

I never minded the color, either. It was different.

Just re-read and Dawn mentions that "one of the assistant principals" (at SMS) came to find her during lunch to report on the success of Dawn's help the Zuni's idea at SES. The only administration at SMS I recall is: Mrs. Amer, the Guidance Counselor, Ms. Downey, the Secretary, Mr. Kingbridge, the Asst. Principal, and Mr. Taylor, the Prinicipal.

How many assistant principals does a school need? Especially a small school. Although they did seem to have an endless supply of teachers that changed with every book. ;D

^ , they sure did. Maybe the number of students constantly changed, too. How many students were there in Winter Vacation? I think that number of total students was much less than the claim of the # of 8th graders in MA misses Logan.

Thanks, Oldhickory. Here's what I found, minus Memory Garden. I skimmed through it but didn't find any numbers.
In Winter Vacation, Mary Anne tells us that the entire SMS student Body (minus Logan) is on the trip. That number was 382 students, so plus Logan that is 383.
In Mary Anne Misses Logan, MA tells that all 8th graders are participating in the author's project and that each group has about 4 people in it. Wasn't there was one group of 5 or am I making that up? Supposedly she (MA) is in group #42. In any case, even if #42 was the last group and had 4 members and all of the remaining 41 groups also had 4 members, that would be 42X4=168 students in 8th Grade.
383-168=215
Lol, the division of 215/2=107.5 6th graders and 107.5 7th graders.
Does Graduation Day give any #'s?

^ I don't think Graduation Day tells you how many students there are but it's been a while since I read the book, so I'll have to check.

I doubt Logan was the only student in the whole school who missed the winter trip. I wonder if Mary Anne's number was actually the number that went on the trip, even though that's not how she phrased it.

I did like this one, but I really wanted them to continue the pen pal program into other books. I wanted a class trip out there that was suggested in the end!
