I really liked that Claudia remained friends with her seventh-grade friends after going back to eighth grade, too... which made it extra annoying that they disappear completely in FF.

Boy these end books are really stretching.
I feel bad for Janine in this one too and man she was really attention hungry from Claudia. Claudia was again sort of a biatch to her and kept making it seem like spending time with her was a chore.
I wish that peaches would have been the cool aunt that tells them to clean up and then doesn't tell their parents. It would have been neat for Claudia and Janine to have shared that secret.
Other than that - terrible subplot and real boring party! Way to spice it up BSC - cookies and pizza! I did think this party would have gone better had it not included random people showing up. It would have been nice to see the different groups of friends interact.

I guess in BSC-land when a certain client family is not being sat for, friends, too, are "forgotten." Unless I'm mistaken, ever since Claud moved back to 8th grade, her 7th grade friends had not been heard from. Her having a party in this might have made more sense if she had started to feel badly about drifting away from them or even, gasp, (that was how it felt to me), she felt guilty for feeling closer to all of them (as a whole) than she did with every BSC member. She hoped a party would indeed allow both groups to mingle. Instead it was just a random event gone wrong. I felt horrible for Janine as always. I had no problem with Peaches telling Claudia's parents, though it might have been interesting had Claud reminded P of the time when she (P) took Claudia on the midnight excursion for pizza. I am super glad nothing terrible happened in this book but with all the lead up, it seemed like more than a vase would have got broken. Maybe the neighbors call then police for all the noise...something "mild" but bigger/more realistic, then, too for Peaches anger.
I am not a Korman fan but this subplot at least had a few seconds of redemption with MA at the end. I am not quite getting why both Skylar's parents took her out for less than an hour a couple times. It was nice that both parents were invested in the "baby gym class" just not Stoneybrook-like.

It would have been amazing had sgt Johnson showed up to a noise disturbance!

^You're right! I never thought of that. Imagine the SPD having to put a stop to something a BSC member was doing. If Peaches showed up then or if Claudia was asked to call an adult, then for sure, her being angry would have been justified.
O/T to this but Mr. and Mrs. Kishi knock on Claud's bedroom door to tell her and Janine (J is helping C with math) about their trip. Both girls had been eating Snickers bars. (Claudia, for a change, did not mention their size). I say this because apparently Janine had been nibbling at hers. Two seconds later when the alarming knocking began Claudia "hides their candy wrappers in her math book." Did they stuff the candy down whole or what? Darn that they weren't caught. That would have (finally) been something to see. You'd think at this very end of the series, that could have been made into a humorous moment for us long time fans.

My favorite part of this book is the spaghetti dinner Janine makes for Claudia...I like how they didn't forget it's one of Claudia's favorite foods

Maybe I'm just really cynical, but I always assume that it's an accident when those random little details are thrown in there after so long without a mention!

LOL starrynight. Vicki Berger Erwin wrote this book and she doesn't write that many others, so who knows.
I really liked Janine in this one. She had a few endearing moments, like how she was trying to be supportive of Claud when critiquing her homework and wanting to bake cookies with her and do a sister night. I can't really understand sibling relationships that seem almost cold like Claud and Janine, since my sister and I are a year apart and best friends.
Janine also had a LOL moment. The Kishi's are grilling Janine and Claud before they leave to Chicago: [Mrs. Kishi] "If you do feel ill..." "I'll call the pediatrician, Russ, Peaches, the Simpsons, the neighbours, and put an ad in the paper," Janine said. Then she picked up Mom's suitcase and handed it to her.
Way to go, Janine!

It's because of this book that I sometimes use the phrase "channel swimming." Janine said it

She did! She said a bunch of funny things. She also mentioned how she was going to "call up" the web page.

Haha, I find Janine humorous. At the beginning of the series Janine teases Claudia about reinventing the wheel and Claudia makes a comment on how she can’t even make a joke.

First time reading this book.
Plot was okay. Peach didn't sound like the old Aunt Peach
Sub-plot was awful. Just about Melody & Billy fighting alot. Until then end, they made up.
So funny when Janine says I'm call up the web. (That me laugh.)

I've been doing a lot of BSC reading lately, and this is another I just finished reading for the first time. The "big party" was really pretty tame. The back cover made it sound like it was going to be crazy. Instead of Peaches and Russ showing up, maybe the Goldmans (were they still living next door at this point in the series?) could have called the cops with a noise complaint. Police breaking up a BSC party would have been kind of funny.
The last-minute pizza Janine and Claudia tried to make sounded revolting. I kept picturing a hunk of dough covered with burned Kraft American singles.
I didn't like the Korman subplot at all, but I don't care for the Kormans in general. Bill's anger at Melody was never explained and the whole thing was resolved way too quickly. They were constantly at each other's throats, then suddenly everything was fine after they had to work together to get into the locked house? Lame.

The "big party" was really pretty tame. Didn't she learn anything from the party in Stacey vs. the BSC?
