^Yeah, that is true. The girls, did tell they're parents what happen, while they're away from home.

I thought this book had a different style and tone than most of the others, like it was meant more for teenagers and mature pre-teens than pre-teens and younger generally.
Bill Korman being violent was unpleasant, a little too out-of-place, but Josh being nervous in meeting new, older people and Janine trying to be friendly were both endearing. It was nice that Stacey and Kristy didn't have any jealousy or hostility to the 7th grade friends and that though it got too frantic the big party wasn't really a disaster.

This one was so badly written and it's no wonder. It's ghost written by someone new named Vicki. And I just love Claudia's reasoning on throwing a party: my parents didn't say I couldn't. Hello! Anyone with brains would know it's a given that her parents wouldn't want them to have friends over while they were away. It's called being responsible and they trusted them to be able to be home alone
And why didn't Peaches stay with them and Russ could have stayed home with Lynn. Would have been a perfect arrangements but I guess that beats the plot of the book.
Janine was very OCC in this one.

This one actually has a lot of nostalgia for me XD. It was on the bookshelf of my sixth grade class and I borrowed it one day. To this day, I'm not sure if I intentionally kept it- ahem- stole it (this is VERY OOC for me, I'm so not the type to do something like this and never have been. I'm the type who feels guilty if I accidentally swipe a pen, even as a kid!) or if I just forgot to return it. Either way, I ended up keeping it, and later on, I always felt sort of guilty about it. Lol.
Okay, now on to the actual book review. A lot of this is very nostalgic to me and just so familiar. I guess I read it a lot. It's kind of weird that I did, since it's such a random late series book (I didn't read them in order as a kid, I just read any I could get my hands on. I started reading them probably in 1999 or 2000, so the vast majority of the series was published by then). But I was always kind of a sucker for the "my parents are gone for the weekend, I'm gonna throw a small party" plots. If I'm being honest, I still kind of am for some reason.
That being said, I remember the party being a bigger deal. But it's honestly a really lame party lol. Cookie decorating? Teams? What were Claud and Janine thinking lol. I actually really liked the fun facts idea and can imagine that taking off for a small party. As I read this, I was honestly kind of wishing that it was just the smaller party she planned for. Claudia was really silly for letting the BSC members invite more people. You never, ever do that for college or younger. Ever. Never ends well in any book or movie. Come on Claudia.
The actual party chapters were really underwhelming. You could tell that ghostie really wanted to add alcohol to the mix, but had to keep it rated G. So they just make a gigantic mess. Dumb XD. I also find the BSC members to be kind of OOC here. Shannon and Abby throwing a cookie around? Maybe Abby, but not Shannon. They had to know that would make a mess. Idk, they just acted really disrespectful and you'd think they'd be more mature. It really, really feels like they wanted to add alcohol to the mix but couldn't lol.
I sort of like that Janine was on board with it, though, for some reason.
I like Claudia's conflict here, but I think there should have been more leading up to it. Up until now, unless I'm missing something, she didn't seem to be struggling to juggle all her friends. All the taffy stuff felt kind of forced. I found myself feeling kind of bad for Josh too, Claud seemed to be kind of grouchy around him a lot. They don't really seem like boyfriend and girlfriend to me.
The triple date was also kinda disappointing. Could've been interesting, but for some reason, was forgettable.
Poor Mal.
So I think I like this one a little more than most, but that's largely nostalgia I think. I think I'd give it a 5. It's not bad, just not as fun as it could be.
