^This is the very one, U4me. I think Ed and Maureen talked enough to agree to that plan. I know their divorce, especially in BSC-time, was "new" but I still think they should have put their feelings toward one another aside for their only daughter. I actually was surprised Stacey never did "cheat" again, perhaps in MUCH smaller way. Definitely kudos to her but she was only 13 and it did sound like she had a sweet tooth.

avoiding foods that make you sick is one of the strongest, most basic survival mechanisms though. one day i threw up after eating a rice krispy treat and even though i love them, i cannot physically eat one anymore. after going through such an ordeal i don't blame stacey for sticking to her diet.

Very true oldhickory! I was sick last week and I know I'll be able to eat pizza again someday, I'm just not ready for it right now!

^ My brother (who's almost 24) still won't eat chocolate after he had a cupcake once in elementary school and threw up on the playground 24 hours later. I keep trying to tell him that it probably wasn't the cupcake, but he won't listen.

This was a good book. Charlotte was annoyed in this book. Pretending to be sick. So, she could see Stacey in the Hospital. Charlotte isn't so bright. They have hospitals in Connecticut. I don't know, why the Johnsons didn't take her to see her. Stacey wasn't in ICU or critical condition. She was regular patient. I'm sure, they could visit for while. I didn't like ED in this book. He was too controlling. Telling Stacey what to do in NY. Which, they didn't do. Since, Stacey got sick.
It's true. They do come in your room 24/7 Even when you sleep. I been in hospitals through out my pre-teen/adult years. They check your vitals signs, switch your IV bags, draw blood, etc...You rarely get some sleep. Unless your dope up from pain medication. Still, wake you up. half of the time, don't remember what happen or who came in. My first hip surgery. (I was 11) Their was this nice nurse name Tammy. Very sweet, gentle, kind. She & my older sister, got to talking. This was late at night. (My older sister spend the night at the hospital. So did my dad. Not my mom, she has hard time sleeping in other places.) I was like when Tammy's turn to be a nurse that night.
Anyways, back to topic. The fudge looks so good on the front cover. I rarely ate fudge. fudge makes me sick to stomach. I love chocolate. But, if I have too much. Makes me sick.

They didn't take Charlotte, because Stacey was hospitalized in New York City while staying with her dad for the weekend.
The fudge really looked delicious on the cover!

It might have been far away but Charlottes parents know how much she loves Stacey, they could have organised a trip for her at the weekend if none of hem were working.
Bacon does it for me, and Southern fried chicken. Can not stand the smell of either of them.

The Johanssens definitely should have taken Charlotte visit Stacey, possibly even twice. I think at first, even if Char wasn't able to talk long with Stacey, it would have made all the difference in the world to her had she (Char) simply seen with her own eyes that Stacey was alive and being cared for. Perhaps as Stacey felt better, the J's could have gone back. No excuse for not going at least once. I also think (I know Stacey was very sick at first) Stacey could have suggested to Dr. J that Char coming to see her would be okay.

Maybe it's just because I think Charlotte is always a whiny whine-ball, but taking her to NYC seems extreme. Didn't hospitals used to have stricter policies about kid visitors anyway?

I agree, but it was never clear to me just how close to NYC Stoneybrook was. Like Mrs. Stevenson commutes every day but no other parent seems to work in NYC.

i think one of stacey's books puts it at two hours (something along the lines of "i have two hours to do my homework before i get there"). i can't imagine driving four hours a day to and from work though.

I think NY according to the BSC is anywhere between 1-2 hours, depending on the book. I believe once it took even longer, but maybe I'm wrong about that. I do agree Char was being a bit whiny in this. I also didn't quite see the connection in her mind between getting sick in CT and ending up in the same hospital Stacey was sent to in NY. The only possibility was if Char got truly ill, maybe, she thought NY would have her required "specialist?" IDK, made zero sense and was a pretty weak subplot. A better one would have been if there had been concrete scenes/letters/calls/memories about their friendship and that Char was simply worried Stacey would be okay.

If Karen Brewer couldn't go give Nancy her card, why drive the kid all the way to NYC to be told no?

Perhaps it depends on the train? For instance, when I've taken MetroNorth or NJ Transit it's a lot slower than say, Amtrak, since they make so many stops and are slower trains. I think a lot of people in Fairfield County, where Stoneybrook must be located if it's a suburb of Stamford, work in NYC.

ok I looked up Stamford to NYC on the Metro North website, and it's 47 min to 1 hour 6 minutes. I sincerely doubt it takes an hour to get from Stoneybrook to Stamford. Anybody remember how long it takes to get to Stamford? I know Washington Mall is half an hour away.
