^Me too, yuck. I could see her with a small dog. If the girls had been in 7th Grade even an extra year and/or their characters had remained "younger" longer, I think Stacey might have appreciated the loyal companionship of a dog.

I could definitely see Stacey keeping a dog, although not a small one. She did a good job sitting for Carrot and enjoyed it too.

She did do a good job with Carrot aside from not taking him home with her when she truly thought someone with red hairs was hiding in the J's house.

I did like the gifts Laine brought and that the BSC visited Stacey while she was in the hospital. I also liked that Stacey helped Charlotte and Becca bake brownies. It would've been nice if Ed and Maureen didn't argue in front of Stacey while she was in the hospital.

I loved the mirror that she gave Stacey that laughed when you looked at it. I had one when I was younger that screamed! I laughed every time.

Going back a little bit about the McGills trying for so long to have a second baby...
they might not have been trying that long. It wasn't until my sisters were 7 and 9 before my parents decided they wanted a third (hello, me! lol).

I also liked that Stacey helped Charlotte and Becca bake brownies. It was fudge; the girls pretended they were martians chefs, and fudge was their specialty!

I can see how you might have thought it was brownies because they look like brownies on the cover. Fudge is typically cut up into smaller pieces, I think.

That is a good point, Feather, and one I never thought of. I guess Stacey (to me) made it sound like her parents had been trying for a second child for forever, but then in "BSC-land" forever could mean a repeat of the same year 5 times or something. I really do wish Stacey had had a sibling and that she truly thought of Charlotte as a sister. The "fudge," I still get "mad" at Becca on the cover for not catching Stacey in the act. It could not have been more obvious, although in the story Stacey does not take the fudge pieces until Becca and Char are out of the room watching tv. The story might have totally changed had Stacey gotten sick at the Johanssens, not necessarily that afternoon but in general. Though if that happened, I'd feel horrible for Char.

I'm not sure how aware the charges were of Stacey's diabetes. In the Sea City books, it seems it was something Stacey didn't discuss with the kids. I suppose Charlotte might have known about it, since her mom was kind of a quasi-medical advisor to Stacey.

Yeah, it's like how they always said Richard and Sharon dated "forever" before they got married when it was only - what? A year?

I think Charlotte was the most aware of the clients of Stacey's diabetes. I get how excited the Pike kids would be (and were) by the extra treats in Sea City, but still thought it odd that not one of them, ever, asked Stacey why she was not having any ice cream or candy. Claire and/or Margo for sure should have noticed. But then neither of them said anything when the three of them plus Marc Kubacki and Claudia had ice cream sodas on the Disney Cruise either.
I think Richard and Sharon did only date a year.I just checked and they re-met in January of '87 and got married sometime in either '88 or '89 depending on what season you think "Mary Anne and the Great Romance" took place. The book itself was in '89.

I can remember Charlotte reading the New York Times once while Stacey was sitting for her, and she made a big deal out of finding an article about diabetes. So yes, I definitely think Charlotte was very aware of Stacey's diabetes. That's not surprising.

I liked this book. I liked reading about the girls visiting Stacy in the hospital (this is the one where Stacy was in NYC and her parents wouldn't visit at the same time, right?). I remember thinking how dumb Stacy was for cheating on her diet, but it has to be tough to avoid every temptation - especially when you're just a kid. Regardless of what those girls thought, 13 is still a kid!
