^ yeah, she loved Tiffany's and working at Bellair's....so THAT'S why Stacey's friends in the Bad Girls books stole!

^Was Maureen secretly the ringleader or perhaps she helped the mall manager, Ted Morton, (wasn't that his name)? in "Stacey and the Mystery at the Mall." I do have to admit that alternate-family plotline would have been interesting. Maybe either Maureen or Ed decided to give up being crooks and the other got angry, therefore leading up to the divorce?

LMAO!!! She arranged alllll this for Stacey in summer 1995, including the Bellair's daycare job so Stace could chew on some humble pie in the end, and go back to the BSC so she can get out of her hair! And the employers, they all knew about the discount fraud, like OMG! Maybe Ed dared Maureen to steal the jewelry from Tiffany's and she spent his money instead and he got mad

LOL, but you know, maybe Maureen did go out of her to make certain Stacey got a "real" job on purpose. I never thought of that. Maureen could have also said that if Stacey wanted to feed her "friends" day in and out that she (S) would have to earn the money for the food. As I type that, Stacey did buy alot of snacks, didn't she? I wouldn't think there'd be much of any "junk food" in the McGill house.
And Maureen loved Tiffany's so much, that was one place she could never bear to steal from!

Even if Maureen liked junk food, I can't see her keeping it around. Not so much because Stacey might sneak it (since she got quite sick after going off her diet that one time) but because I can see Maureen wanting to be a good mom who wouldn't want to eat junky things in front of Stacey since she can't enjoy them with her.

^Aw, I can see that, too. I think if Maureen ever wanted a "treat" or something not on Stacey's diet, she'd indulge during work hours. Except, in "Welcome Back, Stacey," there was ice cream in the freezer because Stacey made desert for her parents "fancy dinner."

I bet as soon as Stacey was diagnosed Maureen altered the entire family's diet accordingly. She was so obsessive about doctors and trying to "fix" Stacey that I can picture her clearing out the entire kitchen immediately.

Okay wow this discussion was amazing!!!! Not actually the parts about the book (which I liked!) but about Stacey's parents originally being thieves!!! WOW! That would've been so much more interesting.
I did like this one except for Mal being crazy. I did think the play she wrote was ridiculous and made her out to be a saint....Is that the way she thought of herself b/c obviously she had to write truth!
I loved the picketing and agree that the subplot went to well with the plot that the book actually flowed! I hate the subplots (most of the time).

^She probably wouldn't. The Bad Girls were just eating like, peanuts and yogurt when they were at her house, and Stacey hadn't bought that--she picked up bagels, chips, and pretzels.

^This is a weird comment but I could almost see the Kishi parents sneaking a treat before Maureen. For some reason, Maureen seems like she'd only buy what she needs (food-wise). Though, it would have been funny/understandable to read of her secretly buying a candy bar or something when not with Stacey.

I can see Maureen perhaps sneaking snacks late at night while watching a movie (say a romantic comedy or period film). Ben and Jerry's, anyone? Although, maybe the Kishi parents have their own secret sweet tooth. (Mrs. Kishi sneaking Snickers bars in the back room of the library!)

^I don't know why, maybe because Maureen somehow seems "older" (at times) than some of the other parents. Okay, maybe I take it back. I just looked at the McGill family in a Stacey scrapbook picture and Maureen does look less rigid than I imagined. Lol, I can totally see what you wrote above, Virgo. I would have loved if someone caught Rioko eating candy on the job, maybe while reading a Nancy Drew?

I can't help but like this one. Why oh why? I've noticed some board members not liking the books around this time of the series, and I for one tend to have some attachment to them. Looking back, I would have LOVED Mallory's experience working for a famous author. I love how Mallory felt so dibble and grown-up taking cabs.
Henrietta's house looks beautiful, and I love the scenery, almost as if something I will have myself (or want) as a writer. But I noticed in the Complete Guide that Henrietta's house is kind of close to Mallory's house... like a few minutes away. They make it seem like it's SO FAR. Maybe the Complete Guide messed up so that they could actually put it on the map...I don't know, it's just slightly annoying.
This is one of the books I think of when I want a good, November BSC book.
