^ I would have been all over that if it had happened when I was a kid!

Someone who illustrated Robert Munsch books came in I think, the author of the book Far Seer came in, there was another author, I think her name was Marjorie but I don't remember what book she published.
But I'm not going to lie, I used to wish Ann M. Martin did a book tour here and imagined lining up with excitement outside the bookstore the way Mallory was for Amelia Moody

I love "I Love You Forever," by Robert Munsch, so sweet. Aw, to your "Mal-inspired" memory. I would still enjoy meeting Ann, if nothing else to tell her thanks in person for creating Stoneybrook and to once and for all find out if she has ever checked out our board!

It was really nice finding her on facebook thanks to this board and telling her what a fan I've been since childhood and younger family reading what I still have. I wonder if it was her or someone managing her account though, still a pleasure though.
Oh and I think I made up an outfit similar to Mallory's for Amelia Moody that I would wear....she dressed better as a kid before complaining at 11 about everything!

Wow thanks for finding that Rachel. I agree that having Stacey's parents in jail wouldn't have been the most appropriate thing, especially at the series' start but later on...would that have been much worse (yes) than the cat burglar? I think it would have because it would be an everyday personal issue and totally take away any innocence to Stacey's character. On the other hand, it could have been one heck of a chapter 2! I also admit after awhile since diabetes seemed to basically go away, having a built in plot like that would have been most interesting. What do you guys think?

Mal really was cruel to Henrietta. When Mal read the article to find out the "truth," naturally she'd be let down but to jump all over Henrietta first in person and then by nasty letter? IMO, both were un-called for. I just read this one and it made me think how, even though Mary Anne can be insensitive at times, she's one member who wouldn't be about something like this. Mal's a smart kid but she seems so dumb in this book. It's probably something she'll look back on when she's older (and hopefully writing better stuff ) and feel embarrassed about.

^She might, she did to Alexandra Carmody. I know that was completely different since Alex (in this case I was glad not about the lie just that her parents were happy and okay) lied about her parents being dead. ITA with MA that is not something to joke about ever. You're right, MA probably would have also kept her discovery to herself at least for a while. I wonder if eventually Henrietta might have confided in her had they become friends? Mal, was just a young 11 in this book but still her reaction seemed so very over the top!

Do we think this title is a shout out to Misery?

It could have been, I kind of see the connection but I think it's too dark of a storyline to be alluding to in a kid's book. I don't think Scholastic would go for it.

I wonder if Mallory and the author ever kept in touch after this book.

^That's a really good question Supprazz. I would like to hope Mal and Henrietta did keep in touch if even a few cards here and there. I wasn't a big fan of this book but did think Henrietta could have been a good person to Mal maybe sort of like Serena McKay was briefly to Claudia in "Middle School Dropout." I confess to liking Serena more and wishing she and Claudia had kept up some sort of friendship but I think Mal could have used Henrietta in her corner longer term, too.

The dedication at the end should totally have said "The author gratefully acknowledges Mallory Pike for her help in preparing this manuscript." Yes yes yes! I thought the same thing! In the beginning of the book, Vanessa is the one playing with the Skip-It, but in the play it's the Margo/Margarita/Melissa character playing with the Skip-It...I'm guessing that's a mistake. This line stood out to me. Mal is talking about becoming an author when she's an adult: Man...I know Mal is always hard on herself regarding her looks, but that seems particularly harsh toward herself.
