Ann was definitely going for the Nancy Drew approach, and it was good move since she did a good job on the mystery plots in the regular series, which were increasing overtime, like Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, The Ghost at Dawn's House, Mary Anne's Bad Luck Mystery, Mallory and the Mystery Diary, Mary Anne and the Search for Tigger, Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook, Kristy's Mystery Admirer, Jessi and the Dance School Phantom

^ Looking at that list made me realize that I actually enjoyed the regular series mystery books more than the actual mystery books!

However, I think this was the beginning of the change in the mysteries from everyday, possible, to wackier and in some cases, more frightening (for the girls). I think so too. They went from searching for missing children or finding out secrets from the past to becoming paranoid about robbers and stalkers!

^That's exactly it, BooBoo. It's like Ann and Co randomly decided they needed to sensationalize in order to possible keep up (make new) sales? :/ Whatever their reasoning I much preferred the "old."

Starry: yeah, bad luck mystery and dance school phantom are among my all time favourites in the series for how well they were written. I forgot to mention Claudia and the Great Search, I really loved that one too
oldhickory: I believe those all came out before the first mystery debuted, but makes you wonder too

It is funny to me how mr Hoyt give Stacey the lecture about not getting involved with these types of thi GD but yet all the rest of the mysteries involve some ridiculous crime. I find it completly absurd that they wouldn't call the cops when the found the bag. That criminal must have been an idiot if he didn't see 5 teenagers hunkered down by a car or hear the clicking of old cameras (b/c they used to be super loud!).

It's a part of being undercover or keeping her from discovering it on her own

Interesting how the mystery series started off somewhat innocently, with a missing ring, and ended with dangerous burglars. I enjoyed a lot of the scenes that didn't involve the mystery the most -- Stacey's shopping trip with Charlotte, Mary Anne and Stacey's unexpected double date, Stacey picking out outfits before her date with Terry, Claud making the "Stacey bill" (I wonder how long Stacey had it over her bed!) Luckily, they happened to be in the right place at the right time. Before that they were just staking out photocopy stores which was a big yawn. The criminal actually pauses and looks back when he drops the bag, so I don't get what took him so long to retrieve it. Maybe he was thinking, "I'll drop this bag and wait long enough for babysitters to get their cameras and snap pictures of me."

I giggled at how random it was that Claudia was thinking about getting a blue star and moon tattoo like the thief....only to hate tattoos later on in Claudia and the Perfect Boy!

^ It's funny that she mentions that she hates them as it seems out of character for her. Claud usually likes things that are unconventional or that break the rules a bit. Also, I can also see her viewing tattoos as a great way to artistically express yourself.

Yeah, exactly my point, which is why I found it so narrowminded of her to write 'No Tattoos" since her date with rock. It said a lot about her character, and while I think we females need to be picky, being too too particular is not always a good thing.

^ I can see Claudia being the one most likely to get a tattoo out of everyone in the club! Think of the fun she'd have designing it herself!

She'd like to design them, but maybe not get them inked on herself...she felt all faint when her ears were pierced in Trouble with Twins, I think? But maybe the grown-up Claud would deal better with pain
