I'm rereading this one and have only made it through Kristy and Stacey so far. Kristy's memory just seems really boring to me. I always get it confused with the time when she, MA and DM try to give Louie a bath and make a mess. What book is that in? I really like Stacey's memory but it makes me hate Laine and her friends soooo much that I want to climb into the book and strangle them. ;D I knew girls like that who seem to thrive on others' misfortune, probably because they don't understand what it's like to have anything wrong with them. I really wish the later books would have addressed how hard it is for Stacey to deal with her diabetes but I guess they didn't want to depress readers and wanted to show all of the things she can do rather than what she can't. (And I don't think the writers know what it's like - not that I do, either, but I know a lot of kids who have it and Stacey doesn't go through anything compared to what they do.) I'm anxious to reread the other memories now as I can't remember what any of them are. ;D

This book gave me another reason to think Mal is just really weird. (This was the one that talks about how she met Amelia Moody and cried, right? That always made me feel so embarrassed. I tended to skip that chapter in rereads.)

I'm not completely sure, but I think that was in Kristy's Great Idea, when Louie got sprayed by a skunk and MA, Kristy and DM try giving him a tomato juice bath and they make a huge mess. If it's not that book, then it has to be one of the earlier ones.

I think that's actually in Kristy's Book. I could be wrong, it's sometimes so hard to keep all of their adventures straight.

I thought they gave Louie a bath in Claudia & the Mean Janine (or...Janine & the Mean Claudia) when they held that daycamp for the kids.

^ They did then too but the time I'm thinking of is when they are younger and Kristy is first starting to baby-sit.

^ They gave Louie a bath in #7 because he'd gotten into the garbage and was all messy. DM decided he needed to look better for his introduction to their new neighborhood.

I just read this the first time. I didn't read any of these later books my first time around. I thought I was going to hate it - I have a thing about "change". I don't like the new style covers, and I hate that this is a super special but it's not white. I know, it's dumb. Anyway, so I have two copies of it, and one is a shiny gold and the other is a yellow with the girls signatures on it - does anyone know the story behind this?
As for the content, I loved it. I didn't care much for Kristy's dying for independence chapter, but I did like how it showed a different side to their family life - Mrs Thomas relying on the neighbors, but not too much, Charlie and Sam -- I suddenly feel bad for Charlie, having so much responsibility at such a young age. I feel fan fiction coming on. It also makes his whole "sure I'll drive my sister and her friends all over town all the time" more understandable and less creepy, at least to me. But I still would have preferred a chapter where Patrick left. I also thought it was telling when Claudia said she didn't like Kristy's dad very much. It makes me wonder what happened before he left.
Mary Anne's chapter was cute, it was nice seeing those girls play pranks on the baby-sitter, and the sitter having a sense of humor, unlike Aunt Cecilia. But mostly I was ambivalent towards that section.
Mal's I skimmed over, I was hoping for something that wasn't a repeat of Mallory Pike #1 Fan. Then she cried, but .. whatever. I don't really get Mal and her made up drama. Yes, I think most, if not all of her problems are in her head.
Jessi's chapter I liked, because it showed her life in Oakley, and her feelings towards babies echoed mine. Still do actually - they smell, are noise machines, and take up space and need so much stuff. I also liked that Aunt Cecilia was practical, Jessi's family was practical, and her neighborhood was awesome. Everyone sharing furniture and her dad painting the room himself. Also, Jessi and Becca sharing a room. It was nice to see economic diversity for once, and the Ramseys seem so normal and grounded.
Shannon's and Stacey's chapters I can relate too, as I remember those type of moments from jr high and high school all too well. Shannon's was interesting because it showed a different side to her attitude toward Kristy, and I remember the "friend shuffle" all too well. Stacey and her friends - that's the worst thing about small schools - if anything happens, you get ostracized. Also, it's hard on other people too - if you try to be nice to the person on the outs, sometimes they aren't nice to you, and your friends don't let you back into the group that you started. It's hard. It was nice seeing that side of Stacey, and showed a bit why she brags so much about NYC.
Logan - okay, creepy much? So none of his romantic meeting and joining the BSC was by chance? What message is that sending -- that guys only do that stuff to get the girl? I would have liked to have read more about the road trip from Louisville to Stoneybrook - - that sounded horrible.
Dawn -- How horrible. I can't believe her mother did that to her family. I am almost positive that she did it for three reasons - one, so her parents could help her out financially, two, so she could 'punish' Jack, and three, because she heard from a friend at her HS reunion about Richard. You know, closure and all. But I still fault Sharon for punishing her children because Jack cheated or thought about cheating on her. Then DAWN feels guilty about saying that she misses her friends? Ugh. Bad parenting.
Claudia -- I hate bad teachers. I also LOVED that Mimi went and talk to the teacher. I only can wish that my parents had ever stuck up for me that way. Never would have happened though. I thought that was so cool that Claudia thinks so differently. I wonder what her parents would have done if she had told them? Probably the same thing my parents would have done -- sat her down and asked what the directions were, and if she honestly thought she followed them correctly. Then convinced her that she didn't. I so miss Mimi and feel for Claudia.
Honestly, I really liked this book.

Ugh. Bad parenting. To be fair, I really think Sharon just needed to leave California -- she chose Stoneybrook because she needed a support system (ie, her parents). Maybe in a way she figured if she left California behind, she could leave the pain behind.

I remember seeing both versions in the stores. I only have the yellow copy, and the collector's necklace came with it. Maybe the gold was a limited edition? In Claudia's Portrait, she puts a butterfly on the cover of her autobiography. I love that.

I actually didn't think it was that bad that she moved back home - not that she went about it in the very best way but I don't think she did it to get back at Jack or anything like that. I haven't gotten to Dawn's chapter yet so maybe I'll think differently this time, though, as I don't remember it very well.

My guess is that after the first printing (or at least the first few), they decided to switch from the shiny gold to the yellow one because it was cheaper. But then, I assume that about quite a bit of what publishing companies do.
