I don't even remember posting that question, but I figured I might as well find out and Googled "rme slang means" and apparently "RME" stands for "Rolling My Eyes."

Question about the cover: Why are they all wearing joggers on the beach? Robert is the only one wearing thongs!

^ I was slightly disturbed by that at first...thongs aren't always shoes here in the U.S. and that's not something I want to think about with the BSC...especially a male character. Off to scrub my mind with bleach and a toothbrush...

I thought the same thing at first! I was like "I didn't notice Robert wearing a thong" I haven't looked at the cover for a while but would have remembered that.

Heh, oops. Sorry! But my question still stands! Why are they mostly wearing seemingly inappropriate footwear for the beach?

I've never thought of that, Jen, but it is a good question. Don't be sorry about the confusion - it gave me a laugh when I really needed it I'm going to reread this book soon. I'm in a Hawaii and island mood - probably because it is soooo cold again here. Will spring ever come? I need to go to Hawaii and look forward to doing it through this BSC book, which I think is one of my favorite Super Specials (probably because it takes place somewhere warm

^I think I might re-read this one too over the weekend or something, cause for the life of me I can't remember anything that happens in it, lol.

Joggers = tennis shoes or sneakers? (I'm not sure if I remember the cover). If so, I don't think that they're quite so inappropriate; maybe they wanted to be able to run more freely or something w/o having to worry if their sandals might fly off.

I never wear sandals and never have. As a kid, I wasn't allowed (dr. said no) because of bad arches in my feet and not enough support. I did get away with wearing those cheap canvas shoes (the kind that cost like $2 at KMart don't ask me how. I also spent a lot of time in cowboy boots (when with the horses - not to make a fashion statement) Now I can't stand the feel of sandals and would go barefoot before wearing them, so I don't think it's too strange, either. Sandals are harder to do things like run and play sports in, which may be the reason that Kristy and Abby didn't have them on. Stacey and Claudia probably had fashion reasons. I'll have to study the cover when I reread tomorrow.

Maybe they were just posing on the beach for their picture, rather than actually playing there?

Okay so I went to go look at the cover of this book to see what you're all talking about and I don't even OWN the book! What a disappointment!!! My sister started re-collecting all the books before me so it must be one she has and I don't yet. Dang. I was so ready to re-read it right now. Guess I'll have to wait til I see her. If only I had a complete set of BSC books, life would be such a picnic! ;-)

I just reread (unfortunately it didn't make me warm and liked it even more than last time. I think it is one of my favorite super specials. I was laughing so hard during some parts - especially Abby's descriptions of the suitcases. I didn't really mind any of the chapters this time (still wasn't particularly thrilled with Dawn's crusade to clean up the beach or with Jessi's chapter when she writes everything down). I enjoyed reading about Claudia's talk with Mr. Reynolds - maybe because it made me think of my Grandpa who was also in WWII (I'm missing him a lot right now since Mon. is the tenth anniversary of the day he died). The book also had some classic "Alan" moments in it and the chapters with Margaret Wallfleet and Jenny P are some of my favorites in any book. I can't read about Jenny needing a tunnel straight to their house from Toys R Us without laughing. In all, I'm really glad I reread. Now if I could just go to Hawaii and get warm

The artwork on this cover is *so* bad. Mary Anne looks like she has some sort of front wedgie, and her legs are in a position that I think is actually physically impossible. I think all the boys in my fifth grade class had the haircut that Robert's sporting. Logan doesn't look the way I picture him at all--it took me months to figure out that was Logan and not, say, Alan Gray.
And I have no idea why they're wearing sneakers on the beach. Don't they know that they'll be shaking sand out of them for weeks afterward?

I think I found the most ironic sentence in any BSC book, ever, from on of Stacey's chapters: "I know he's (Robert) not a cheater or a liar." Considereing how much of both he does in #99, this almost made me laugh out loud. I think Robert was a bit of a player. He always seems to be flirting with other girls, and he always seems to have an excuse for why it's not his fault. There's also a lot of foreshadowing about the end of the Robert/Stacey relationship that I never noticed before.
