I just read this one for the first time! There was soooo much handwriting in this one. I liked it, but in some ways it felt more like reading a Hawaii travel itinerary. I liked how Jessi was leaping all over the place from excitement. I would be too. And of course Kristy would make them tacky BSC t-shirts to wear in Hawaii. Was there some kind of buildup in the previous books where MA and Logan actually were spending too much time together and their friends called them out on it?

From the mommy persepctive I have now, I wouldn't relish an 11 year old giving me advice or the look Mal gave her! I doubt many would.

Rereading this book, I found a small mistake. Mary Anne says that when they arrived in Hawaii, it was two pm and in Stoneybrook, it was seven pm. It should have been eight pm since in the summertime, daylight saving time is observed (in most states. Hawaii and Arizona don't observe daylight saving time), which gives an extra hour difference between the two states.
Also now, you can fly directly from JFK to Hawaii on Hawaiian Airlines (though you can still fly to Hawaii with a layover if you wanted). I wonder if this book was written today with the knowledge that you can fly directly to Hawaii without any layovers, would Ann and the ghost writers still have them fly with the layover or would they have just put them on a direct flight?

Flights with layovers are cheaper, so I think a school trip would have a layover.

I enjoyed this one. Really liked Mallorys plot, Abbys and Claudias. Mainly because I am a history buff.

I'm disappointed that Mary Anne and Logan didn't take their relationship to the next level. Hawaii would be a perfect place to sneak off and they have been going super fast for 13 year old. Alas, it was no meant to be since the BSC books are children and young adult books. I'm sorry about my wording.
Hopefully, when she's older and gets a little confidence in herself, I hope Mallory rips Jessi's photo book to shreds. I'm biased, but I can't stand Jessi.
Oh and Stacey's a b*tch. Is that anything new?

This one was... alright. I didn't think it was that boring, just felt like not much happened. I think the problem with this one is that it felt like a lot of the fun stuff was summarized. "We did this, and this, and this, and this." The obligatory baby-sitting felt more showhorned in that in any other Super Special thus far. Stacey's helicopter crash wasn't as exciting as it should have been. Mary Anne and Logan's TBI was really, really dumb.
I liked Claudia's plot, but I like history.
Abby's commercial was actually pretty funny. Her sense of humor works for me in this one. I like that they added a little quirk for her- collecting tacky tourist stuff. Fits her character well.
I liked all the food in this book.
Why were they wearing BSC T-shirts in Hawaii? Why in the world would the Reynolds call to ask if they could babysit? That's totally ridiculous. Long-distance calls were still expensive then, so if it was just a joke... it was an expensive one.
I wouldn't have let Dawn go either.
The Connecticut plot was actually more interesting than I thought it would be. Mrs. Wellfleet was an idiot.

So let me get this straight: Dawn flew from SoCal to Stoneybrook for summer break, only to want to go to Hawaii, so she flies all the way from NY to Hawaii (with a layover in LAX). WTF? Why didn't she just ask her dad to take her? I would much rather fly to Hawaii from California than all the way on the East Coast! Dumbass! She must really love spending all her time on planes. Also, why is she even going? She's not even a SMS student at this point. Yeah, yeah, I know, they were able to get through some loopholes, but still....anyway, you can read about my rant about that (and some others!) in my review of this book: thebookshelfofsara.blogspot.com/2021/08/say-aloha-to-your-friends.html

I thought the only good plot was Claudia's. For a Hawaii book, it just wasn't that interesting. I also can't get over the fact that Dawn is on this trip. It makes no sense and the explanation is so convoluted. I don't think it's explained why Anna didn't go. I didn't mind Abby's packing procrastination. It's very in character, although I can see how it's annoying. I can't remember which book, but procrastination is definitely a habit of hers. "He's not young, anymore." Well, no nuts, Dawn, it's called aging. But to be fair, since she and her friends and family never age, she probably has no concept of it. Poor thing." GOLD.
