OMG. Arthur! Yes! I am totally going to watch an episode of that now.
Karen sure likes the name Hatey.

Yeah. I think it's a really lame "bad" nickname.

it sounds to me like no one taught them about how to make a profit, then they wouldn't have made less than what they were given to buy prizes and set up booths, but still a nice gesture to donate

^ Yeah I was surprised they made $32. They were open late morning and all afternoon, until 4.
I love the picture where Hannie and Nancy are fighting and Karen is pulling one of Hannie's pigtails. Ouch!

I pulled this thread up for zoar because of our discussion in the other thread.
Here's what it says about the location of the new playground:
When Lisa first tells Karen about the project she says "The playground is going to be built very close to the big house. You will be able to walk there with your friends." Then at the end when Karen is playing at the playground with her friends, she says that they walk there every time she spends the weekend at her dad's house now.
Hannie and Karen's fistfight on the playground is still the best part of this book and the illustration is great. I liked that after Ms. Colman made them write apology letters to each other, Karen makes sure to tell us that she's not actually sorry.

I really appreciate this Scrounge, thank you. This means it could have been just past the big house which is what I thought in the other book. It sounded like Karen rode past at least some big house neighborhood houses. I will look for this book next time at that bookstore.

Wish I had my copy of this one. It was one of my favorites as a kid. I love that picture of the hair-pulling, haha. Isn't there also an illustration of Karen shouting into a megaphone? I vaguely remember thinking the shirt she was wearing in that one looked weird, like it was bunching to one side or something.

^ You have a good memory! Since I still had the book out from earlier I scanned the megaphone picture for you. Karen's shirt is pretty odd looking, and check out the mom jeans on Nancy in the background. And then, since I still had the book out and my scanner was all warmed up, I scanned the fistfight picture too.

Virgo, I am becoming more of a LS fan than I ever imagined. I still don't care for Karen always but she is much more enjoyable to read about in the LS than BSC. I just re-read this book and loved it. I would have liked listening in on one fund-raising meeting between the adults, it sounded like both Mrs. Arnold and Mr. Pike attended one with Lisa. I always did want more family scenes or info so that could have been interesting. It was so funny when Andrew asked if the thermometer measuring the amount of money raised at Palmer Square (in town) was sick. I also felt badly for the girls for only raising $32 though I don't understand why they didn't spend a whole lot less money for prizes and other things at the dollar store, Pembroke's party, or even a dime story that was mentioned in a LS book. I get Unicorn Toy Store sounded cool but they could have been smarter shoppers. I did agree with Hannie that she and Nancy should have been asked first about switching the carnival to a fund-raiser only, perhaps they could have done both. Half and half or even have held a raffle of some type at the end. The only "bad" thing about this story was it made me crave pink cotton candy fresh from a machine.

^ Now I want fresh pink cotton candy all over again. I just finished reading and this is a fun summery book. I think it could have made a great LS super special because we might have gotten to read about the fund-raisers a little more (still love that Lisa mentions Mr. Pike, Mrs. Arnold, and even Hank's (from IKMCC) mom was there. I often say how I would love more family scenes in the books both with the girls and their families and the charges and their families but it would have also been fun to read about the adults interacting more. Oh and in this book we learn that Bobby's parents are volunteer fire-fighters, I thought that was cool and would have enjoyed it being brought up again perhaps in safety related LS or BSC book. My favorite part is still when Andrew thinks Palmer Square is sick (thermometer)--that is so funny and cute. It was awesome how everyone at the Big House and Linny (he stopped being a bulldog that day apparently --earlier when the three M's were trying to plan for the carnival in Hannie's room, Linny was pestering them by making bulldog noises) pitched in at the last minute to help with the carnival. A fun read which was what I needed.

I really love this book. Andrew was cute when he thought the square was sick. Andrew is really endearing in the Little Sister books at times.
