My goldfish Schumi is 7.. years old now and still going strong. But fish funerals in my house are a big deal, we go for burial rather than flushing because I dont like the idea of them being flushed down a loo.

Expanding on some points I made earlier, I don't get why Watson or Lisa didn't sit Karen down and explain that fish generally have short life spans. They're not like dogs, cats, or other animals which live for years and years and years. Also, when you buy a fish at the store, who knows how long it's been there! Watson and Lisa are usually such sensitive parents, I'm surprised they didn't explain that. It would have been better than Karen blaming DM for it.

I once had a fish for less than an hour - I squeezed it in the baggie before we even got home. (BTW, I was only like 3, not 7 or 8 or anything...) Sometimes I'm just glad I didn't grow up to become a serial killer.

I did feel badly for Karen, but wow poor David Michael! The least Elizabeth and Watson could have done was bought him a fish of his own! Three fish can't be (I don't think) that much harder to care for than 2. It just seemed so unfair that (as the book was written) it sounded like the majority if not all the care of G and CL was up to DM. It sounded like he did an awesome job, too, yet still got cast aside. Did Mrs. Porter ever have the fish pond again or was that just something for this story?

Watson was so cheap, he could have bought several more fish, or at least had emily and david michael pick out fish they like too if they were going to invest in a big aquarium.

My older sister, give our gold fish a bubble bath. To help clean it. She was 5 at the time.

I think the fact that fish thrive in a certain temperature would kill it easily. I don't think kids would remember to let the water go stagnant before putting the fish in. At least, I didn't!

You sure she didn't get the idea from Michelle Tanner?

^ Nope, my older sister didn't get idea from Michelle Tanner. This was way before full house came along. It came from herself.

I accidentally killed a fish too actually by putting food in the bowl. Full House had already started, but it was years before that episode.

It was nice of Mrs. Porter to give Karen the new fish. She was nice to Karen in several of the LS books but Karen was still a little brat in return most of the time.
Speaking of little brats, the way Karen acted toward David Michael after Crystal Light died was completely unacceptable. He was the one who had put in more effort for the fish than anyone including Karen herself.

^ Yeah, I agreed with you on that. David Michael did took care of the two fish. Didn't Karen & Andrew won the fish at some fair or did they buy it at pet store?

They bought it at the pet store cause Watson said yes to Karen and Andrew and they chose which ones they wanted. I think David Michael should have gotten one too to be fair since they're all around the same age, and he WAS feeding them.
