I was still pretty neutral about Shea even after reading Claudia's Friend. I don't know, I'm just not that interested in him. Archie is definitely my favorite Rodowsky. Jackie is unbearable to me, I can't stand the random accidents he causes.

I'm a Jackie fan. I don't really understand why so many people aren't. I guess it might be annoying if I was actually baby-sitting him and I had to clean up after his disasters all the time, but since I'm just reading about them, I find them entertaining.

Another Jackie fan. He could have ended up becoming a sullen little kid, due to always having to hear people groan over how clumsy he was, but he wasn't. He was always happy-go-lucky and apologetic and just very loveable.

Totally agree about Jackie. I really felt sorry for him in some of the books because he sometimes seems to think he's a mess-up and a failure. I understand why he might think this, too, with being "the walking disaster". Poor little guy. He can't help being clumsy.

I thought Jackie had the potential to be adorably clutzy, but they just took it too far and ruined his character and made him unbearably annoying to me. It's like Dawn's mom. Who is SERIOUSLY that jacked up?! It's like everytime they sit for him, he gets in 4738190 accidents and breaks 9 vases, pulls down curtains/shower rods, gets stuck in random places... it's too much. I would go absolutely nuts babysitting him.

I always thought The Rodowsky's were pretty cute kids. I actually thought Jackie's clumsiness had a somewhat adorable quality to it. I know how he feels being clumsy too! I sometimes feel I can't walk without running into something!

The remorse Jackie would feel when he did something "wrong" was really sweet in a sad kind of way. He was def aware of his shortcomings, which is sad considering he's only 7 years old. He has a sweet disposition about him and it makes me mad the writers made him SO unbelievably "accident-prone" cause he is a sweet boy, like in Claudia and the New Girl when he's so sad he won't be featured in the art show.

I really felt bad for that kid, especially when his "accidents" just started getting really ridiculous. It broke my heart when he wanted to get the job to take care of the class rabbit, but he didn't even want to try to get it because he knew everyone just thought of him as a "walking disaster."
The kid couldn't even button his shirt without it turning into an accident! Spilling juice on the carpet, okay. Doing chin-ups in the bathtub seemed pretty realistic for a boy that age. But getting his hand stuck in the drain after locking himself in the bathroom? Come on already.

It's like Dawn's mom. Who is SERIOUSLY that jacked up?! They're probably are people as jacked up as Jackie and Sharon but, in real life, it wouldn't be an endearing character quirk but a very hard way to go through life.

I like Jackie but I agree that they went way over the top with his "accidents" to the point that it was so unbelievable that it ruined any sense of reality that I might have felt with the story. I know people who would be described as "Accident prone". They spill things and knock things over alot. But not every day. And especially not every five minutes. I was reading "Claudia and the New Girl" the other day where Jackie talks about breaking his piano teacher's doorbell. That was odd quirky got me thinking how one would go about breaking a doorbell. and then he mentions breaking his own doorbell too. How does that happen? A doorbell is not an easy thing to break. I mean it seems like you would really have to try. If he was doing this stuff on purpose it could be mildly believable. Are we just supposed to believe he has really bad luck? Bad karma? Unusually large fingers? He's possessed?

hah! The doorbell thing is HILARIOUS. I remember that and I also remember wondering how that would even be possible.

The only way I can imagine a kid breaking a doorbell is if he, like, punched it or threw a ball at it or something. But you don't punch a doorbell on accident, so I have no clue how Jackie managed to break two of them.

Boing, boing, bonk!
(I think that's the sound the doorbells made. It looks kind of, um, dirty, though.)
