I love the bond between Charlotte and stacy too. I also love charlotte since she reminds me of me when I was that age.

^ honestly, i don't think stacey and charlotte have much of a bond at all, and they certainly aren't "almost sisters." stacey sat for charlotte a lot, but there wasn't more than just a couple of instances in the whole series where they hang out OUTSIDE of a sitting job. even when charlotte stayed with stacey in #35, that was a job. i think stacey liked charlotte because she was easy to sit for and she was a sweet kid, but there wasn't much interest once she got paid and went home. i know that's mean, but their relationship was all talk. i don't really believe it. it's too bad, because i really like charlotte. she was always my favorite to read about and i liked her a lot, even though we have nothing in common. but i hate that the writers made it seem like they were so close they were practically sisters, when in reality, stacey just volunteered to sit for charlotte a lot.

^I sadly have to agree Oldhickory. We never "saw" Stacey and Char bond or even talk (with I believe 2 phone call exceptions) let alone hang out and develop an "almost sister" bond. I wish we had. Honestly the term "almost sister" annoyed me after a while because as you said, the only times the two got together were when Stacey was being paid to sit. In #3, Char briefly gets angry with Stacey because she thinks Stacey (like the Agency Sitters) only baby-sit for her due to the money. Stacey in a heartfelt (I'd like to believe true manner says that if the Johanssens' had called her up to sit, but said they could not pay her, that she'd come anyway. I was always angry with Stacey in #35, (to get Char to take her medicine) took her (S's) blood and went on about her diabetes. I got the "idea" put didn't think the actions were appropriate or very "sisterly." When I think about it, all S was saying was "Stop complaining and take your darn medicine. What I have to do every day is worse. Therefore your temporary problem is nothing." Maybe this brings back memories of myself being told as a kid at times, when I truly was in abusive situation that "others had it worse." That might have been, I respect that truth and feel horrible for it, but that does not "minimize" what I (or Char) was feeling. I hope this makes sense!

I just had a very random thought after posting in #14 thread regarding Charlotte's first meeting with Becca and how that was the last inivitation for interaction between the two families that we read about. My odd comment is that if Stacey truly did think of Charlotte as a sister, it would have been super sweet had she invited the Johanssens to Thanksgiving in Claudia and the First Thanksgiving when each BSC Member and their family went to Kristy's. Even a mention of this idea would have been touching and for once shown the bond.

I've entirely forgotten her (I need to reread!) but I remember relating to her a lot because I was shy and liked reading. Does anyone think that Mary Anne and Charlotte might've got on well, too? With regard to never seeing any 'real' Stacey-Char bonding, I really wish there had been less of the 'force Charlotte to perform on stage' thing from the BSC and we'd been shown Stacey kind of... I don't know, realising that Char looked up to her? I wanted to see how Stacey would set off Charlotte's personality and vice versa. What does Stacey eventually learn from Charlotte?
I really want to write them a little older, maybe fourteen and nine or fifteen and ten. With such different personalities and such a large age gap, I'd be interested to see them either growing closer to being friends over the years or drifting apart. Like others, I wanted to see more leisure-type things like taking Carrot for walks, having picnics etc.

If anything, the personalities of Mary Anne and Charlotte seem to fit together much better than that of Stacey and Charlotte. I also think that Mal would have gotten along well with her, because they both love reading. I never really realised until reading this thread that there isn't any 'real' bonding between Stacey and Charlotte, but now that I think about it, there isn't really anything. I know that Charlotte did come to a meeting in one book for some reason (was it #35?) but I'm 99% sure that was because Stacey was babysitting her at the time and kind of had to bring her along. Also, it's been a while since I've read many of the books, but was there very many instances where someone other than Stacey sat for Charlotte? I seriously can't remember this happening at all, but then I'm sure that I'm completely forgetting one obvious time.

Claudia sat for her frequently when Stacey moved back to NYC.
I think in this case, it may have been opposites attracting. If Mary Anne was her "almost sister," there'd be no growth for either of them because they're too similar.

I somehow managed to completely forget about Stacey moving back to New York. Clearly it's been way too long since I read these books. And that is true about opposites attracting. It would have been rather dull to read about Mary Anne being her "almost sister" actually, they wouldn't have learnt anything from each other at all.

I liked Charlotte. I wasn't really shy, but I liked to read and I was a good student, although the closest I got to skipping a grade was going to English classes in the year above me when I was little. Reading was kind of a natural talent for me, while I struggled with Math for years. Later on, I got better and so when I was Charlotte's age, I was in the best space I was in during elementary school until my last year. So yeah, I'm a Charlotte fan.

I was the Charlotte in my class. Quiet, bookish, had a hard time making friends even though I wasn’t as shy as her. I’m a fan of Charlotte, she’s been one of my favorite clients in the series. Charlotte seemed like a good friend to Vanessa and Becca. Too bad we don’t see her and Stacey bond more in the series. I always got the impression that they would stop hanging out/babysitting/doing things together when they got older.

I was sort of similar to Charlotte in that like her and most of the BSC, I've always loved to read.

Charlotte was so adorable...I can see why Stacey loved her so much.
I think they kept up their almost-sister bond...they text and e-mail each other despite having busy careers and kids of their own.
