^Kristy, Charlie, and Sam each got David Michael one day a week and a sitter watched him the other two. I actually thought that was quite considerate of Elizabeth. She recognized that her older kids needed to have lives outside of their little bro and didn't take advantage of them. *cough* Pike parents *cough*

Yeah, and it's not like Elizabeth paid them. Besides, they deserve a break now that they can afford it after having to take care of themselves and each other for so long when they were younger. Plus, it's better that they had a set schedule and everyone knew when they were doing what, since the older three had so many extracurricular activities.

I found an unusual one. Morbidda Destiny's brother was a professional magician. Kinda cool, kinda creepy.

I'm surprised none of the girls' parents were teachers, what with all of the emphasis on children, and the fact that Ann was a teacher before she became an editor and writer.

^ Mrs. Kishi was certified to teach elementary school in Connecticut, but I don't know if she ever actually did teach. Oh, and I guess there's at least one female lawyer in Stoneybrook, because I was looking in the CG for info about the BSC's mother's jobs (and those of other female relatives who live(d) with them), and I happened to read that Sharon's lawyer is a woman.
Elizabeth Brewer - It says in #1 that she works full-time for a big company in Stamford and that the company's symbol is a sun. One of the FF books mentions that Elizabeth was taking accounting classes while she was a single mom, so maybe she's an accountant.
Janet Taylor (Nannie) - Has a catering business. I think it's just for baked goods.
Lisa Engle - Teaches jewelry-making classes (LS #105). I don't know if she also sells jewelry that she makes, but it seems likely. Also, I want to take her classes, because this week I started developing a beading obsession.
Rioko Kishi - Okay, this one's easy. She's the head librarian at the Stoneybrook Public Library.
Mimi Yamamoto - Dead. I don't know if she ever had a job.
Maureen Spencer - She's a buyer for Bellair's department store and is thinking of starting her own boutique someday. Worked part-time in the children's clothing department of Macy's when Stacey was five. Did temp work after the divorce but before finding a permanent job.
Alma Spier - Dead. I don't know if she ever had a job.
Sharon Spier - Works for a woman named Marjorie who has her own accounting firm. Doesn't like her job much and doesn't think Marjorie appreciates her. She talks about wanting to take courses to prepare her for a new career in architecture or interior design (#131). Sharon, you are forty-two years old and have some sort of neurological condition that makes you put your shoes in the refrigerator -- you'd better give up any hope of becoming an architect.
Carol Olson - Is a painter. We don't know whether she paints canvases or walls.
Rachel Stevenson - Is an executive editor at a publishing company in New York, and a workaholic.
Dee Pike - Sometimes does temporary secretarial work (most notably when Mr. Pike lost his job, but that wasn't the only time). Took a temporary full-time job at Bellair's during the holiday season in #125.
Janice Ramsey - Works in advertising.
Cecelia Parker - I don't know if she ever had a job, but she didn't become an actress like she wanted to because "life has a way of beating you down" (#115). Louise Bruno - I don't know if she ever had a job.
Kathy Kilbourne - Had a job at one point and is thinking of going back to work (I don't know if she actually winds up doing so during the series).

Hee. Not to mention, it's a bit more complicated than taking a few courses to become an architect.

Very handy list, wanderingfrog!
When did Nannie have a catering business?! I love how Stacey's mom went from working part-time in the children's department of Macy's years ago to being a buyer for a large department store.

About 40 or 50 of my Little Sister books are ones I haven't bothered reading yet, but I decided to take a look at the most likely title, #93 Karen's Cooking Contest. Yup, got it in one. Nannie starts her business near the end of this book, selling something called "Chocolate Magic."
According to Ashley's handy-dandy chronological book list, this takes place around the time of Jessi's Big Break.

I don't know which Karen book it was, but there's one where she participates in Take Your Daughter to Work Day and goes to Elizabeth's office with her. In that book Elizabeth was in advertising and was helping to make a bubble gum commercial. (Of course Karen didn't know this at first and was totally bored because Elizabeth made her sit in on a business meeting and try to take notes. Then Watson got pissed at her because she hurt Elizabeth's feelings by saying the job was boring. OMG Watson and Elizabeth, Karen's 7! She didn't have a clue what was going on in the meeting and doesn't have to worship everything you do!) But anyway, Elizabeth was in advertising for at least one book.

Apparently that's #84: Karen's Big Job. I knew someone had mentioned before that they thought someone besides Jessi's mom was in advertising, but I couldn't remember exactly. Thanks for bringing that up.

So what's the lawyer count at? Characters who are mentioned as lawyers at one point or another: Mr. Pike Mr. Spier Mr. Kishi Mr. McGill Mr. Perkins Mr. Delaney Anyone else? What other overused occupations are there in Stoneybrook/Stamford? I noticed the same thing. I guess theres no plumbers or construction workers or teachers or janitors or anything in stoneybrook. Gosh it really bugs me that all the men are lawyers!!!!

Hang on a sec...Nannie has a name?!?!? What's more, her last name is Taylor. Does that mean she's related to Bart?

It's possible. How about Sharon--her maiden name was Porter and there's Mrs. Porter, aka Morbidda Destiny. Granted, they're both common names, but I like it nonetheless since it allows your imagination to wander.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were related, with all their weirdness going on
