I never knew if Laine was pronounced "Lanie" or "Lane." I said Lane for the longest time. I too thought it was Spy-er until I watched the BSC movie (at the youthful age of 22; not sure why I didn't watch it sooner). I am familiar with some Japanese and Italian words so I knew about Kishi and Prezzioso. But do Trevor Sandbourne and Shannon Kilbourne pronounce their names as sand/kil-BORN or BURN? Also, how do you say Rodowski? Road-owski or Ruh-dowsky (with a "schwa")?

it's definitely laine. i don't know anyone who would spell "lanie" laine.
I say rodowsky like road-owski (except i break it up so it'd be like row-dow-ski)

I pronounced it row-dow-ski, too. And I went back and forth on Laine. Sometimes I called her Lane and sometimes I called her Lanie. I still think she has an incredibly stupid name!

i am not sure if polish is like russian (unstressed "o" becomes "ah") or like ukrainian ("o" is always "o") in its orthography. Looking at it, I would say "roh-dahv-sky." but that is with a russian accent, and rodowsky is obviously some sort of anglicized bastardization of whatever the original polish was. maybe the polish would be more like "roh-dOV-sky," if the orthography is like ukrainian rather than russian. i think everyone in stoneybrook would say "ruh-dOW-sky."

In the movie, Kristy and Patrick say "Ruh-dow-sky."

I say it Ruh-dow-ski. That may be due to my accent, and the fact Aussies are lazy pronouncers

I used to think Janine was pronounced Jay-nine. I always pronounced Johanssen as JOHN-a-sin. Papadakis was Puh-PA-duh-kiss, and of course, I read Spier as Spyer. I still can't make myself pronounce Spier the right way!

Sorry if putting the "y" caused confusion, I should have put "i." candykane, I thought Janine was "Jay-nine" too ;D I think I also said "Johnson" for Johanssen for awhile.

^ But "y" can sometimes sound the same as "i" ;D I always said Johnson, too, because that was my best friend's last name. ;D I said "Ja - neene", though, and "Row-dowskee" Don't even ask me to pronounce Jenny and Andrea's last name. ;D

^ But "y" can sometimes sound the same as "i" ;D Yeah! It's just that maryanne13 also commented on Kristy saying it in the movie, and I just wanted to make clear that my writing it "sky" was meant to sound just like "ski." Prezzioso was probably the hardest name for me to pronounce when I was little.
