I can also related to Mary Anne because sometimes I could be quiet and shy too. Mary Anne was also the kind of friend that I wanted. She was very kind hearted and loyal. Friends like that are hard to come by.

Mary Anne's one of my favorite characters. The way I see her as an adult is through FF. I see Mary Anne as being quiet but less shy and she's more confident in herself and more assertive.

She would have to be more assertive than we think. And she brought up the play clothes issue with Mrs. P in #7.

Now that I think about, I find it strange when in some books, Mary Anne says that she remembers her birth mother. That can't be possible because a person's memory begins when they're two and a half and by that time, Alma was dead. I know the BSC books aren't realistic but still...

I'm similar to MA since I'm meek, sensitive, love old movies, love cats and I used to have a problem of not being noticed. I'm also somewhat like Kristy and Dawn since I like to stand up for whats right and won't let people run over me for long. Anyway, I could relate a lot to MA (and for a brief time in my childhood, Mallory.) I love her books. It's fun to read when she acts out. I mean, it is totally unexpected. '' I wish you would get out of my life forever! '' I laugh at how so dramatic she could be sometimes. She still one of my favorites though.

That can't be possible because a person's memory begins when they're two and a half and by that time, Alma was dead. I know the BSC books aren't realistic but still... My earliest memory began before I was two and a half - I remember something that my mother never once told me, and there are no pictures of - yet I was able to tell her the story of her taking me to her work (at a newspaper place) and can describe some of the faces of the people around us. It is very strange. I was about 18 months old at the time, maybe slightly older, because that is when my mom and dad started getting to see me (I was adopted). My dad has a memory even younger than that, of his mobile in his crib and the music it made. He must have been about a year. However, if MA's mother did die by the time she was a few months old, there is probably no way she would have any memories of her.

Wow, you started remembering when you were young. It's just that I took a cognitive psychology class and I'm pretty sure that the professor said that a person's memory starts when they're two and a half.

Well, I cannot say that I remember a whole lot more than that one thing from that age...so I wouldn't say that my total memories began there, just had that one vivid one. Cognitive Psychology sounds like a pretty fun class to take, actually. I find it interesting to see what the 'norm' is for different aspects of cognitive development.

I only remember three things from when I was really young (by that I mean, when I was two and a half or three until I was four and a half).

I remember when I was two getting my favorite teddy bear (he's still around). Other than that I got nothing before 5 yrs old. Although, sometimes I think I have the early onset of alzheimers b/c I can't remember what I did 10 minutes ago.

Ah, Mary Anne... my childhood favourite. I feel that when push comes to shove, Mary Anne is the friend that you'd want by your side at the end. It's no wonder she is one of the most relate-able and popular sitters (after Stacey).
She's probably one of the least threatening for young girls to read about and I was always drawn in to her sympathy, understanding, friendliness (and love of cats).
I named my first cat, Tigger, an orange-and-white tabby because Mary Anne named her cat that, too.

Eh, Mary Anne had her b*tch moments. "When you have a boyfriend, you want to look your best for him." GOD.

^ True. But that could also be said about Stacey/Claudia/Dawn (Dawn and the Older Boy) and millions on tween girls everywhere
