Was it cream cheese and jelly sandwiches that the sitters would make for the kids early in the series? I always wanted to try one. If it is, then maybe I got it from there. Its so good! I like mine toasted. Try it!

I tried it after reading about in BSC. I think it was the Logan book that had the girl bully EJ in it, and one of the sitters (Claudia?) made the Arnold twins cream cheese and jelly sandwiches on bagels because their lunches got stolen by EJ. I haven't had one in years, but they are really good.

I have always wanted to try one. I think I will have to make one of them one of these days.

All the delicious food in Karen's Surprise, I even know it by heart! Turkey, butternut squash, wild rice, cranberry relish, black olives, green olives, hot apple cider, baked apples, rice with peas and onions, pumpkin pie I think, possibly apple pie, and by karen's request pecan pie and sweet potatoes. I think being around all those food characters and playing the turkey really got to her head and tummy Another examples of delicious sounding food include Claudia's chocolate-cherry cake from Mary Anne's mom with its icing design brian's egg salad sandwich in perfect boy and like someone mentioned earlier, the food in Dawn & Whitney in the classical music picnic scene the gourmet meal in Claudia and Crazy Peaches as well as the pizza in all the books mexican food in Mary Anne's Makeover all the junk food and candy claudia recreated through art at her gallery

This has probably been mentioned but ... hot dogs! Seems to be the food of choice for some parents whenever the BSC comes to sit during meal times!

I don't think it's a good choice at all and simply lazy on their part then, like those parents who keep giving their kids mcdonalds.

I didn't realize I was doing this often till recently, but I would go hungry without realizing I had no appetite and was reading the food scenes over and over in BSC and similar books in my college years and in a way that was sometimes replacing the eating. I wasn't on a diet per say, but I was under a lot of stress from family and love issues, and felt my face was too round and wanted to have cheekbones. I did eat though and I danced for exercise and had more time for walks then so I lost it that way.

When I began rereading, I thought Rings Dings, Ding Dongs (?) and HoHos sounded like Christmas come early. From the descriptions upthread, they seem like Twinkies.

Ring dings and ding dongs are the same thing, but made by different companies. Ho Hos are like them, but like a little tube instead of a disk. They are all cream-filled chocolate cake covered in a chocolate shell. So in the same family as twinkies, but a very different taste. Ho hos are also the same as yodels, which the BSC also mentions!

I think the closest I've tried was one of those home brand cakey-type biscuits which didn't taste all that great. I also very vividly remember the lox from Stacey's Mistake. I ought to make some because funnily enough, I've never tried it to this day. I've tried cream cheese on bagels, and salmon on subs, but never both. And I adore salmon.

Ring-Dings and Ho-Ho's sound so good. Too bad we don't have them in our area. I always wondered what they taste like. I remember, in the early series, Jamie loved peanut butter and banana sandwiches-toasted. It sounds really good. Whenever I read a BSC book, I always get hungry! Karen's Surprise and Karen's Birthday makes my mouth water. Plus Claudia and the Recipe for Danger (ummm...I want chocolate cherry cake! ;D). During BSC meetings, when everybody eats candy, I CRAVE candy. Especially Mallomars. I don't even know what they look like or taste like (we don't have Mallomars in our area either). And Twinkies. And Double Stuf Oreos. And Tootsie Rolls. And...basically everything except pretzels. I hate pretzels except the ones from Aunt Annie's. Okay, I'm going to run to the store and buy some candy

I always liked the Kishis' taco dinner in #40, and the "celebratory salad" Claudia made in #33 with radish roses, and a hard-boiled egg and carrot sticks arranged to look like the sun.
