^That sounds awesome and like a lot of fun. I had a room with a skylight once. It was a nice feature except when it leaked during rain storms.

Reading this one and it's adorable how excited Mallory is about being the second sitter for the first time.

^ That WAS a nice moment, and definitely foreshadows Mal becoming part of the club later on. I would have been over the moon if I'd gotten to do something like that at her age. I don't blame her for being excited at all!

^ Yeah, I agree. It is a big responsibility for a 10/11 year old. And when you're hanging out with older kids - at that age - it can be somewhat of a big deal sometimes.

I still enjoy the idea of this book about finding a secret passage and think it was so cool that Dawn's house was a stop along the underground railroad. As Sparklymouse posted up thread, I really also wish we had learned if other nearby houses were stops also. I admit to not knowing much about how the railroad worked but would think within in a neighborhood there's be more than one stop? On a spooky note, I do think it would have been awesome had Jard Mullray been Sophies dad Jared and he had ended up happier (at least a little bit).
I have said before that I was surprised at Mrs. Pike for saying "maybe someone ought to check out the condition of the passage," before Nicky went there again. To our knowledge no one but Trip-Man checked it out period. What made me angry was early in the book Dee tells Mal and Dawn that "Nicky is going to have to learn to deal with this." She is referring to the situation with his brothers. Yes, as he gets older especially Nicky will probably have to realize at times his older brothers are off doing their own thing. What he should never have to "deal with" was how he was treated in this book--made fun of and hurt constantly. I was glad Mrs. Pike finally did have a talk with her older sons at the end. Maybe she could remind them how much fun they, Nicky and David Michael had at Disney World and in the Bahamas!

But also say, her attic/cellar could have been a stop. The area I grew up in had a fair amount of underground railroad houses, but I don't know all that much about it either.

I feel like an overused trope in kids books (US ones at least) is that if someone lives in a house with a secret passage, there is a REALLY high chance that they'll tell you it was a part of the Underground Railroad.

That could be about Stacey's house. All of you know I still wish that Jared had been Jared Mullray. I think it was Sparklymouse who mentioned that the Stones were a possibility since there house was in the same area (depending on the book) and older. I just think, particularly in Abby and the Best Kid Ever when Abby did her project on the underground railroad she should have (MA really should have) thought to look if other houses in the area were connected to it. ETA: I just read through the "Logan Likes MA" thread. I'm going to read that book tonight. I had asked how old Chewy was. On page 33 of this book (Ghost) Myriah tells MA that Chewy is 8 months old.

I used to love this book as a little kid. I still do, of course. I remember thinking this was SUCH an intense book as a little kid (*eye roll*). My favorite scenes include: 1) MA babysitting Myriah and Gabbie 2) Mallory being the 2nd babysitter for the first time (it was adorable how excited she was) 3) Dawn and the BSC searching for a secret passage but ended up scaring each other 4) Dawn discovering the secret passage 5) Dawn and Jeff meeting the Trip Man for the first time 6) Dawn showing MA the secret passage and ended up scaring poor, paranoid MA 7) Dawn finding Nicky in the secret passage 8) Dawn reading the history book and learning about Jared Mullray 9) Dawn and Stacey scaring the BSC using the secret passage at the sleepover I know, I have a lot of favorite scenes in this book. I should reread this ASAP.

For some reason, one of my favourite scenes in this book has always been when the girls all suggest which movie to watch. I love it how Claudia shows her Star Wars love with such pride It kind of seems like a random movie for her to be a fan of in a way, but then I also feel like it suits her perfectly. Though I've always felt that Sixteen Candles seemed like much more of a Stacey movie, and Mary Poppins a Mary Anne one. Even though we are told many times that Stacey loves Mary Poppins, I kind of feel like that doesn't go well with her image of the sophisticated fashionista from New York City.

I liked their movie selections too, I felt that their choices said something about their personalities other than the overused cliches the girls usually fall into.

Claudia was really eclectic when it came to her tastes in things, wasn't she? I remember her getting into the music of Bach at one point in the series. I think it only got one or two mentions, though.

I'm going to assume one of the later ones, because I can never remember them as well as the earlier ones for some reason. Things like that are part of why she was always my favourite member actually, she always seemed to do something random which would make me laugh

The Bach mention was in Keep Out, Claudia.
