I just finished this one for the millionth time, and I found myself wishing that the friendship between Mary Anne and Myriah had been better developed. It was nice to see Mary Anne come to terms with the Perkinses living next door instead of Kristy, and sharing the window connection with Myriah. It would have been even nicer to see them share a relationship similar to the one that Stacey had with Charlotte. I can't remember if the window thing was ever mentioned again.

Mary Anne briefly mentioned the window thing in #30, after she found out they'd be moving to the Schafers' house. She told Richard that she'd showed Myriah how they could see each other from their windows, and that Myriah would miss being able to do that.

^That is so sweet that Mary Anne shared that with her Dad, I did not remember that at all. I honestly never thought about a Myriah friendship but that really could have been sweet, too. Also, might have given us a few more memories of MA/Kristy's friendship and maybe helped MA to reach out to Kristy in the present. I will always wish the two of them (to our knowledge) had remained close friends.

Was it Mary Anne who prepared Myriah for the pageant in #15?
I also liked the window thing and as a kid used to wonder why they never mentioned it again.

^ Yes, it was, but there was no real mention of them having any kind of special connection, from what I can remember.. ..

I think she also gave Mary Anne flowers when she moved. I thought that was so sweet.

I'm reading this one now and I noticed that the thread was bumped. That's been happening to me a lot lately (reading a BSC book and a fellow members posts about the book not realizing I'm reading it at the time). Anyway, this is my favourite Dawn book. So many good scenes. I love when Dawn and Jeff make dinner and have it outside on the picnic table and it gets interrupted by a thunderstorm. Dawn makes a salad that I didn't appreciate until now: cottage cheese, peaches and pineapple with coconut shavings. I also remember her making tea and putting it into a pitcher and adding ice to make it cold. Also, got to love the scene where Dawn, Kristy and Claud scare Mary Anne and Stacey and then Jeff scares them!

Agree with everything! My favorite Dawn book as well and in my top five books. I love the idea of eating outside as a storm is coming. The rainy/stormy/hot and humid feel throughout the book appeals to the southerner in me. Mm, iced tea. Logan should have mentioned having sweet tea from time to time...I know he mentions pimiento sandwiches in one book. I always remember Dawn pulling her hair away from her sweaty neck but not putting it up I think...I do the same thing. Just realized that my hair is almost to my waist, like Dawn I have always wanted a green dragon's head ring because Claudia mentions hers in this book

Dawn never seems to put her hair up, which seems strange, now that I think about it.

Yeah! I think she just braids it occasionally.

I only remember her doing a tiny braid behind her ear, which was a look I coveted as a youngster. Except for her Lewis makeover, of course.

I remember this one vividly, because it was one of the first ones I owned, apart from "Jessi's Gold Medal". I also remember it for being the first pre-Junior Officers book I read with Mallory in it. I think it was also the first one when she was considered a babysitter for her own siblings, since they always got two if a certain amount of the kids were home.

I think this book also got me into Nancy Drew

Reading this again for the end of summer feel. I laughed when Kristy said "Quick! Let's hurry before the movie comes back on" when they pause Ghostbusters. Because you always had to do whatever it was--getting a snack, taking a restroom break--before the pause ran out!!
I have actually been thinking recently of getting a VCR again to watch my old VHS because I'm just too lazy to look into the DVD converting process.

I don't even remember that about the VCR!
