^ i got to use one when i was younger (i don't remember whose it was) and i remember being blown away by the technology. I think it's just cause I hate dawn, but I'd anyone think she did this to make herself look good? of course she did. dawn can't do anything without throwing in a lecture -- she wants everyone to see her as this mature, worldly person. i do think she cares, because she did work really hard, but i also think she loves attention and saw this as a good opportunity to get noticed.

It is sort of a funny thing to make and sell.

I never got the impression that Dawn helped out for personal glory. Maybe that's just the fact that I don't hate Dawn as much as some people do, but I always felt as if she really cared. Dawn is just naturally someone who thrives on having a "cause" to promote.

Some people are like that with their causes.

I haven't reread this one in a long time. I barely remembered what happened in this book! I just started reading it tonight. I noticed that this is a Lerangis book. I didn't know he started ghostwriting that early on in the series. Maybe this is the first Lerangis book? I don't recall an earlier book written by him...

I remember that dawn had to make out permission slips so they could donate stuff. All those kids went crazy finding things to donate.

I just got around to reading this one for my blog. I remember really liking it as a kid, but not being particularly excited to read it these past few months.
Does anyone else want to know more about Goober Mansfield. First off, I'm convinced we've seen the name Peter Mansfield before. He's definitely been mentioned somewhere! But yeah, I want to know more about him. I think this is also our first time hearing about Mercer.

This is one of the few occasions where Dawn is justified in going in one her "crusades". I thought the kids acted very realistic at the sleepover, getting homesick and having to go to the bathroom every hour.
I wished they used the burnt orange cover more. I loved the color.
I wished that there is a Super Special where the Stoneybrook kids and the Zuni kids would go on exchange trips. That would have been awesome. That would also give the reader updates about how the school and the community are doing.

Too stereotypical for a tween girls' book series in my opinion. I wonder why this cover was, like, the only bright non-girly color. And why was it burnt orange to begin with as opposed to pastel pinks and blues and greens and yellows? Lol, not that I mind, but I've always been curious. Yeah, that would've been a cool SS, but I've heard that in BSC in the USA, the Zuni kids were not only mentioned but also shown - over a hundred books later! Very surprising considering there are major inconsistencies in this series...

This is a fun book, I really like Haley's fortune telling booth. Really enjoyed her "predicts" to Alan telling him that he'll be famous and stuff, it just made me giggle. The sleepover was the fun part though, I have a feeling that it would go over not as well irl.
The letter from the Zuni school at the end nearly made me cry, just call me Mary Anne lol.

I enjoyed the book. I especially loved the burnt orange cover. It's a shame that it hasn't been used since.

The pen-pal aspect of this book was kind of fun and reminded me of writing to kids in far away places in Elementary school. Of course, my pen pals and I did not write nearly as many letters as these kids did.
The sleepover was fun though and I can see how it wouldn't be fun for the BSC, lol. It'd be hard to take care of a gym full of children overnight.

She also gets worried after coming up with the idea and telling Kristy because when they have their OMGEMERGENCY meeting of the BSC to discuss the project, Dawn is concerned that Kristy is going to steal the credit for it. She doesn't but my god. These girls can be so insecure sometimes! I saw someone mention Goober Mansfield. I think it's explained that he's a cousin of one of the girls in Jessi's dance class? I forget the girl's name - maybe Grace? Anyway, she mentions to Jessi that he does entertainment at kids' birthday parties, so Jessi got him to come to the Pikes' carnival.
