I always thought this book was so funny. Didn't Margo peel a banana with her feet and recite a poem or something? Haha.

^ Yes it was. Very odd talent to say the least, lol. I actually thought it'd be gross to see someone do something like that.
Overall, I thought this book was okay. The Jeff stuff had been built up for several books now so it wasn't surprising to see him move away. I just wish we had gotten a book that focused primarily on that instead of the pageant stuff.

Jeff's departure should have been the main plot, while the pageant thing should either be put in the background or scrapped altogether.

^ My thoughts exactly. I would've liked the book a lot better if the pageant had been the subplot instead of the plot.

That's a really good point. I never thought about it before, but it's weird that the pageant took center stage over Dawn's brother moving away. I don't particularly like the pageant chapters anyway, so I probably would like that change also.

I guess I still don't understand what was so bad for Jeff. I know he was fighting with people but I just never understood why. On pg 71 where it is describing Claudia's room, I got the image in my head that she is a total hoarder! In another book, I forget which one, the girl narrating describes Claudia as a pack rat, which is pretty much what a hoarder is. And they call Kristy a slob. I really loved this book. But re-reading it as an adult, the girls all really annoyed me except for Mallory and Jessi. All because Dr. Johanssen called and requested Claudia to sit for Charlotte. And all the other girls got SO MAD. And turned all their anger onto Claudia and were guilting her about accepting the job. Remember after, when Kristy says to her all passive-aggressive, "So, how was your SPECIAL sitting job with Charlotte?" and Claudia just doesn't get what the big deal is. Charlotte is super close with Stacey and she misses her - Claudia is her best friend so Dr. Johanssen probably assumed she keeps in touch with Stacey the most. And then Dawn yells at Mallory when Mallory asks why that's such a big deal? Like, how insecure are these girls? Charlotte asks for Claudia to sit her and the others immediately assume that Charlotte doesn't like them anymore. Remember how they go into that weird bragging thing? "I invented the Kid-Kits Charlotte loves so much!" "I got Jenny Prezzioso to the hospital!" "I saved two kids from a fire in California!" And it's this arguing that leads them into competing in the beauty pageant so they can show they're the best babysitter of all. Also, wouldn't it make sense for some kids to request certain babysitters? Like all the sitters have their favorite clients. Stacey likes sitting for Charlotte, Claudia likes sitting for the Newtons, Jessi likes sitting for the Braddocks, etc. I don't get why they got so upset when a client requested someone. I guess because it leads to bruised egos?

They shown more maturity than any of the older girls put together.

For all that Mallory and Jessi are seen as the younger ones, they can sometimes act more mature and grown-up than the 13-year-olds.
I felt bad for Claudia getting ganged up on after Charlotte requested her until she basically forced Charlotte into the beauty pageant. Like, what did Claudia THINK would happen?!

I'm almost finished reading this book and boy,the pageant is tacky as hell and the older girls are acting like a bunch of stage moms!
Pros to Mal and Jessi for keeping their heads together. And I find Mal to be absolutely right about beauty pageants.

I’m kind of surprised that Kristy found the pageant fun. Then again, the earlier book the girls seemed more real. I like that she was interested in it at least.

Thank goodness that was only one book though. I generally think most beauty pageants, especially children's pageants stink.

Yeah, I remember Kristy saying "Pageants are sexist but they can be fun!" I think Kristy got the idea to get Karen into the pageant so she could compete against Dawn. Because like I said, Dr. Johanssen requesting Claudia to sit for Charlotte left all the other girls (besides Jessi and Mallory) really cheesed off and wondering why THEY weren't getting requested too. So they all entered the pageant so they could prove they were the best babysitter of all. They all admit at the end that's why they were doing it, to show how amazing they could be at babysitting. And I still don't get why it's such a big deal if a client requests a certain sitter. Wouldn't that be a positive thing, that one of the sitters is so well-liked by a family that they get requested?

That is true. It’s like if you have a preferred server in restaurant and inquire if they are there. The other girls got all offended as if it meant they weren’t good sitters. Lol

That does seem odd and out of character...unless one or two sitters had no clients requesting them. But I think I recall each of the BSC members being a favorite with a client.
