I definitely believe in ghosts but don't think they hang out in cemeteries.

Santa Claus at least has some semblancwe of historical basis. He's also the patron saint of thieves.

Thieves, too? I knew he was patron of sailors and pawnbrokers...obviously I'm neither Catholic nor Orthodox!

I think ghosts hang out close to where they died. Dying in a cemetery would be convenient but probably not very likely.

i wouldn't mind dying in a cemetary. there's something poetic about your last steps taking you to your final resting place.

Thieves, too? I knew he was patron of sailors and pawnbrokers...obviously I'm neither Catholic nor Orthodox! Santa in Russia isn't St. Nicholas; it's Grandfather Frost and he lives in a town on the Volga with his granddaughter. Also Orthodox saints are different from Catholic ones anyway; I just happened to have read an article the other day about Santa.

I thought Grandfather Frost had been contrived for New Year's during the Soviet Era?

Did your mother get gifts for Christmas or New Year?

Christmas, but on January 7th, naturally.
And now I celebrate New Years. Circle of life!

Well, yeah, we're Orthodox so of course we don't follow the Catholic calendar.

My cousins are Greek Orthodox, so I'm vaguely aware of the differences. We're very, very Protestant ourselves, not Catholic.
