Did Hamill’s popularity coincide with this book? It was such a surprise to me when this book came out…like whoa Mary Anne chopped all her hair off I NEED A MINUTE. Not necessarily, but her popularity coincided with Ann and the staff at Scholastic "growing up", I'm sure.

Do you feel the same way about Claudia’s dark almond shaped eyes? Claudia has nice eyes also...in fact, before I started reading the BSC books and when I just looked at the covers, I thought Mary Anne was part Asian. In fact, I still suspect Mary Anne may be part Asian and not know it. I remember in one book, Mary Anne mentions that she has Russian in her ethnic background. Wouldn't that be intriguing if Mary Anne traced her roots and found out that her Russian ethnic background actually does have Asian there after all It's possible I guess. Russia is the biggest country in the world and it's in both Europe and Asia. And certain ethnic Asians have lived in Russia (and still do), including the Khanty and Mansi (I think the Mansi are of Asian origin). And let's not forget that when the Soviet Union existed, it compromised of both European and Asian countries.

Funny story...I have similar dark almond shaped eyes... An Indian boy in elementary school once asked me why I had "Chinese eyes"? I didn't know what to say to him. Hurt, I went home and told my family. My dad said to go back and tell him, "why do you have Indian eyes?" Yeah, my dad was not PC; it was the 90s and I haven't thought of that story in yearrrrrs. LOL. That boy and I became academic rivals, for real. I actually have similar dark eyes. Growing up, I occasionally had people ask, What are you?Not necessarily, but her popularity coincided with Ann and the staff at Scholastic "growing up," I'm sure. I think it coincided with many of her staffers growing up in the 1970s. Ann herself is in her sixties, so she grew up more in the late sixties/early seventies. But if you look up 1970s Dorothy's hair, it was feathered as well. Lady Diana also had feathery hair in the 1970s and 1980s. Feathers were popular in the 1970s and 1980s, but not necessarily the 1990s. Mary Anne's hair was never feathered; it was just a straight, simple bob. The BSC grew up in the 1990s, not the 1970s. Claudia has nice eyes also...in fact, before I started reading the BSC books and when I just looked at the covers, I thought Mary Anne was part Asian. And certain ethnic Asians have lived in Russia - and still do - including the Khanty and Mansi - I think the Mansi are of Asian origin. And let's not forget that when the Soviet Union existed, it compromised of both European and Asian countries. So true! Now I'm sure Mary Anne has Asian blood in her.

The BSC were world class jerks in this, my god. I’m not the biggest fan of MA’s haircut myself, but giving her the cold shoulder because she made a change they didn’t like is so…wrong.
I wish Dawn had apologized first instead of Mary Anne having to ask her for a conversation. And I wish there were some moments of Mal and Jessi siding with Mary Anne.
The one book I actually like Logan lol
i was so mad when Dawn said “I thought we did everything together” or something like that. like bro she barely spends any time with her dad. and what about Kristy? Even if she took you, what if she didn’t take Kristy? Kristy is Mary Anne’s best friend too, stop acting like you’re the only one 💀💀
Mary Anne and Richard are so cute! I love their relationship!
Sharon clearly saw Dawn being rude to MA, why didn’t she do anything? That really irked me

I think Sharon just thought they should, are old enough to work things out on their own and wouldn't like adults interfering or trying to push them.

Since Mary Anne's so-called friends had treated Mary Anne like garbage throughout this book, I wouldn't put it past them if they spread that rumor about Mary Anne and Carlos out of petty jealousy.

Mary Anne had a lot of courage getting that short of a haircut and they hated to see it. What friends.

It’s kind of like when someone overweight starts to lose weight and the people around them don’t support it. They make snarky comments about their healthier snacks and call them no fun anymore. Instead of encouraging Mary Anne to feel good about herself they wanted her on their miserable level.

I bet the next time when Mary Anne wants a haircut, she will go to the other girls and ask them permission. She seems like the type who are willing to do anything to keep their friends.
She will definitely be taking Dawn and Kristy on her next shopping trip so they can choose her outfits for her.

I think that Sharon probably disapproved of Mary Anne's haircut and chose to be in Dawn's side. I thought Sharon love Mary Anne's hair because she was gushing over it at dinner, but didn't realize the girls were fighting and/or wanted to stay out of it. About the girls being monsters in this book, they actually told Mary Anne it was a status quo thing. I don't have the book with me to quote it, but they say "that's not you" and stuff. They loved her when she was beneath them, but everyone felt threatened when she actually grew a spine. It's such an ugly message and the book misses the mark.

i liked how nice the alleged "mean, popular" girls are in this book, especially when susan taylor sees mary anne sitting alone and invites her to come sit at their table. it's also weird to me how girls like sabrina, susan, and cokie are clearly established as being students that are considered popular, but when it comes around to stacey and the cheerleaders, the most popular girls in school are all these cheerleaders that have never once been mentioned before in the series
