I never tried playing the SA game with anybody in real life, but I always wished I could have played it with the Pikes.

^ Me too ;D The Pikes sound like they have so much fun sometimes. Wouldn't have wanted to be part of the family but would have maybe liked being a neighbor who could have a good time with them and then go home when I got tired of them ;D

I agree, I wouldn't want to be around them all the time (they're so hyper) but they did come up with some cool games/ideas that would only work with an army full of kids.

Yeah, I would like to have been their neighbour as a kid. Not Mal though!

I thought their car was ugly too. OMG, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that! Even at eight years old, I was like, "Why did they have such an ugly car?"

I liked how Dawn tried to help Stacey in this one and wish they would have developed their relationship more. I really felt for Stacey and it was good that she had friends there for her. The one who seemed the least “there” for her was Claudia – “oh, sorry your parents are getting divorced but I’M so happy that you’re moving back.” Even though I can’t relate personally to Stacey in this situation, this book makes me glad I can’t and I know a lot of kids probably can. I think my favorite thing about this book is the Walker kids. They are so adorable. ;D

I wonder if Ann intended to have Stacey move back when she sent her to live in NYC? I've heard that many readers begged her to bring Stacey back, but I don't know if that's true or not.

^it makes sense as stacey was the most popular baby-sitter and still is, i believe. so they might have thought it made sense plot-wise, but realized that it was a bad move for them economically so decided to bring her back.

Stacey definitely seems to be the most popular. ;D I wonder if lots of kids were upset when she left. I didn't read the series in order so the first one I read was right after she had come back. But reading them in order, this book might have made me sad.

Ann claims that she never intended to write Stacey out of the series, but given how much she loooooves writing about New York, I wonder if she really intended to move Stacey back to Stoneybrook. It's hard to say.
I finally read this one for the first time the other day. I wasn't disappointed, exactly, but it also wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I liked the garage sale, but actually found the going away party to be a bit boring. But that's probably because of all the kids being there. I liked the Charlotte stuff, it was really sweet to see her reactions to Stacey leaving.
Love the cover, both old and new. I love how Stacey looks glad to be leaving, and how on the (new?) cover, Claudia's waving good-bye but not actually looking at her. Hilarious cover art!

^That made me laugh so much the first time I saw it. Like she's so eager to see her off she's already looking ahead down the road. "Alright, bye-bye now!"

^ I never liked Stacey as a kid, either, but lately she's become on of my favorites. ;D

I'm the reverse, sort of. I loved Stacey as a kid (okay, I still do, especially after re-reading Stacey vs. the BSC lately!), but I'm starting to appreciate Mal a lot more. I loved Mallory Hates Boys (and gym), and I thought Mal was awesome in that book. Benching herself because she didn't want to play volleyball is just pure awesomeness in my books.
