^stacey had a really big apartment so i think the people in her building had $$$
museums are super expensive (except for the met!), but sometimes you get lucky. outside the whitney you can always get someone to give you their admission sticker, and once at moma this woman came up to me and gave me a free pass because her kids didn't show up. also many museums in nyc are free on friday nights. you just need to know what to do and where to go and you can do museums cheaply.

I mean imagine if your friends came to visit you or you went on holiday with them and one was being really loud and obnoxious at times I love when Kristy is all "OMG, $250 for ONE pair of SHOES!!" in the middle of Bloomingdale's ;D

^ ;D I love that part too as it is something that I can definitely see myself doing (and actually have done much to my friends' embarrassment). I always get a good laugh out of Kristy on shopping trips because it reminds me of myself. ;D I agree about the people in Stacey's building having money. Several of them were artists and apparently quite successful and I know it said the Reames were rich. After all, they lived in the penthouse with a maid so I doubt the admission price to the museum was any big deal to them.

Stacey was getting embarrassed too easily over the littlest things. But on the other hand, I agree and think her friends were being very embarrassing. I mean imagine if your friends came to visit you or you went on holiday with them and one was being really loud and obnoxious at times, another making a big fuss and constantly being terrified of everything, another acting smug and quoting annoying statistics and another being moody jealous cow... agh I'd want to tear my hair out! Yeah, I just thought things like Stacey being mortified at Claudia's suitcase on wheels was unnecessary. Her best friend, that she hasn't seen in months(?) has just arrived and all Stacey cares about is petty crap like that? Maybe that's typical of 13 yr old girls, though? I dunno.

I just looked back at that chapter to see about Kristy and the shoes, and actually, she's freaking out because the shoes cost $160. I can picture myself exclaiming about high prices as well, but nowadays, I don't think many people would freak out about shoes costing $160 in Bloomingdale's. Shoes are pricey.
Also, remember when they were at the Hard Rock Cafe and nobody knew who Chubby Checker was? I have kind of a hard time believing that, since they're into I Love Lucy and listen to oldies.

Am watching Night at the Museum and the museum looks awesome! The books don't do it justice, I don't think. I was really surprised that there was so much more there than just the dinosaurs since that's all the books seemed to focus on. I know that lots of kids like dinosaurs but not all of them. I know I would have been like "who cares about the dinosaurs? I want to see the history stuff." ;D Maybe it was just me or that was all I picked up on but it seemed like all the BSC and LS books that mentioned the museum (I guess they did briefly mention the other stuff but it seemed very brief and brushed over) focused so much on them.

Well, the Museum of Natural History has a lot of stuff in it, and the dinosaurs take up pretty much the entire top floor. They're pretty cool.
And yeah, the extra exhibits and the planetarium cost extra. They're running an exhibit now on mythological creatures that was pretty cool.

Yeah I definitely agree that Stacey did get embarrassed over really little things, e.g. the suitcase, her friends' excitement, etc... Her constantly going "I want to die" was a bit irritating. Although concerning the suitcase, I don't think I would have been embarrassed but more annoyed about the fact that it caused a lot of inconvenience (as they had to go back to the apartment and waste a lot of time) and the fact that Claud was only going to be their for 2 days yet she brought her whole flippin wardrobe with her!

didn't in the book it said that you could pay what you want but you had to pay something? I always wondered if this was actually how admission worked at the Met....

^^Yeah it is. you just go up to the window and give them as much as you wish. I think there is a minimum, but it's like a dollar or something.
I liked this book. It was very New York. The museum, the walk through Central Park, the Broadway show. But I can empathize with Stacey. Sometimes you just don't want to go around looking like a tourist, no matter where you are.
Regarding apartments, those on the Upper West Side tend to be a lot bigger, but I was surprised at the size of Stacey's apartment. She even had a den! Of course, it could have been considered another bedroom and just called a den, but still, not something you'd normally see in NYC.

^ I must not know anything about NYC apartments since Stacey's actually seemed small to me. ;D But I guess from what I hear about the hotel rooms being small (my dad swears he once stayed in a closet ;D), it would make sense. I think I like reading about NYC better than I would like living there. ;D

Yeah, I can't relate to that attitude at all. It just came across as total snobbery and really rude. Yeah, but Stacey was supposed to be clothes-obsessed as well. I could understand someone like Kristy being annoyed, but Stacey was also the Queen of Dibbleness ;D
