I absolutely adore this book. It was one of the first BSC books I read, and it still makes me ravenous, diabetes-related errors/inconsistencies aside. IMO Stacey's lack of control over what was happening is really well portrayed, and she seems like a legitimate character here rather than a cardboard cutout. I was irritated at Ed and Maureen in this book - couldn't they have been civil for two seconds while their daughter was sick?! If my parents had argued so much when I fell ill as a child, I would've felt much worse.
I remember thinking Stacey's green beret was so dibble as a kid. Now, of course, not so much. But I'd forgotten entirely about the other presents -time for a reread?

This book is one of my favorite books. I love any BSC book which discusses Stacey's diabetes (there are only two books that mainly focuses on diabetes--The Truth about Stacey and this one--if I am not mistaken). I think that Ann (or our fellow ghostie) handled the topic really well, in my opinion.
I felt sorry for Stacey when she stopped sticking to her diet. I always wondered how Stacey--especially at such a young age--could stick to her very strict diet and have no problem about it (not to mention spending three times a week hanging out with friends gorging on junk food in front of her). It must be so frustrating. I, as a junk food addict (I am such a Claudia!), cannot imagine having diabetes. Anyway, excuse my rambling. I think it's pretty normal for a 13 year old girl to go against her diet and sneak candy when she's not supposed to.
Ed and Maureen were so irritating in this book. Seriously, when are they going to learn how to suck it up and get along at least when Stacey's sick?! I would be so pissed if my parents refused to get along while I was sick and stuck in the hospital...
I loved the gifts Laine gave to Stacey. She seemed like a really decent friend in this book. In some books, Laine isn't a really good friend but in, other books, she is a good friend. I would like to have the spider with glasses and the mirror and the electric blue tulips, lol.
I thought it was funny (and cute) when Charlotte was faking all the diseases because Stacey was sick. However, how the hell would an eight year old know all the diseases?! I know she's smart and all and her mother was a doctor but still...
I thought the cards and messages from the BSC were so sweet. I am a very sentimental person, so I keep every card, photo (no matter how embarrassing it is), etc I get.

I really thought she was a great friend in this book and welcome back stacey. I blame ghostwriters for her everchanging personality. I still want that benetton emerald sweater and beret

It seems funny that ever-so-sophisticated Laine is one for such goofy gifts.

Now I think about it, that does seem to be a bit of an Ann-ish (or Lerangis-esque?) trait creeping through, but I always thought she got them because she knew Stacey would appreciate them (I mean, this is the girl who has a stuffed pig collection, so you'd think she'd like quirky stuff like that). Whereas if Laine was ever in the hospital, I imagine Stacey getting her perfumes and silk pyjamas from Bloomingdale's. Not quite, but definitely more tasteful/elegant stuff. And now I think about that, it makes Stace hiding her stuffed pig collection in Stacey's Ex-Best Friend even weirder, because girl. Laine got you this stuff like ten books ago, so she obviously doesn't want to shun you forevermore for not being sophisticated. In fairness to Stacey, though, it was a completely different context and maybe she thought that outside the hospital Laine would judge her/realise she really was a small-town girl and not NY chic enough for Laine's high standards.

Stacey's Emergency is definitely one of my favorite books. I enjoy the books that revolve around her diabetes. There were only two books, I think, that revolved around her diabetes, the Truth about Stacey and this one. Correct me if I'm wrong... I can't imagine being a diabetic, especially a brittle diabetic. I assume she has type one, right? She doesn't have type 2, I don't think because she's not overweight and she's young. Her diet is strict. It sounds like she has a sweet tooth and probably is a junk food addict like Claudia. It sucks that she has to live without sweets for the rest of her life. However, in the earlier books, she says that she had to eat sugar, just not whenever she wants, and to make her blood sugar level even. That is never mentioned again. Also, other than the chapter 2s, we don't see her counting calories, etc. oh, well. This is the BSC we're talking about... Anyway, I can understand why she chocolate in. Although I think it is caused by her body, not her mind and personal things like she assumed. The few books before this one (throughout the 30s), the babysitters "look at Stacey critically". They observe that she is mode tired and pale and thinner. I guess that's foreshadowing? Little moments I liked: when Laine bought Stacey those wacky gifts. They seem so un-Stacey to me, though. Spiders with glasses, laughing mirrors, electric blue tulips, and all. Not very sophisticated and mature. Of course, it is perfectly fine and age appropriate. (I would like those gifts!) just more like gifts for Kristy and Claudia and Abby later on and possibly Dawn. I thought Laine was a good friend in this one. Less than ten books later, she becomes Stacey's ex best friend. (Never read that book yet, btw.) It was sweet when the BSC visited her and gave her that big card everybody signed. I remember when I was in the hospital after back surgery when I was 13 that my classmates and friends and family members and teachers sent me get well cards. Those meant a lot to me, and I still have them. I hated it when Ed and Maureen fought in front of poor, sick Stacey. They were real jerks. I'm glad that Stacey told them to shut up and to get out. I cheered silently lol. As for Charlotte and the fake sickness act, I can kinda understand. I mean, she wasn't really aware exactly why she thought she was sick. No, it didn't make sense that she'd thought that she'd end up in the same hospital as Stacey, but she IS 8 years old, and although she is super smart, anxiety can defeat intelligence. Whenever somebody gets sick, I worry I'll get it too. When I was a kid, I was so terrified that I'd get diabetes too. Whenever I'm thirsty or hungry more than usual, I think automatically, "OMG, I have diabetes!" Also, Ann did a great job writing this book. I love her books she actually writes, I don't hate the ghostwriters, but they aren't as good as Ann. (I hate Peter Lerangis, though I do like Nola Thacker a little bit.)

I've been reading books lately! Yay me. Lol I really like this one. After I read it, I turned on the TV and an old episode of "Emergency!" was on. Funny! (I didn't know what the show was, though. I googled it, and was surprised when I found out what it was.) I want a laughing mirror right now. "Did you decide on a hat?" Ed is so immature. As a kid, I remember wanting Charlotte's pretty, perfect-looking brown hair on the cover

Stacey's father is a douche. His daughter s I'll and he spends most of it working.
Stacey is an idiot in this one. Trying to get her parents back together. She doesn't know the meaning of the word divorce?

One of my favorite Stacey books...I pitied her feeling so poorly even when she was sticking to her diet, though cheating on it obviously didn't help. Still, I could imagine how she was thinking "to hell with it". And in the subplot where Charlotte feigned the illnesses my heart went out to her. I LOVED the part where Stacey stood up to her parents and when she put her foot down with her mom at the end.

I should re-read some Stacey books. My mom was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last year. It sucks seeing her get so frustrated with herself. She can eat the exact same things at the exact same time each day, and her sugar will be all over the place. It's a weird disease. (This doesn't mean I like Stacey now. I have grown some empathy through my displeasure for her.)

I want to reread some of my books, I remember Charlotte trying to make herself sick and I felt really bad for her. I was thrilled when Stacey stood up to her parents.

I’m rereading this book right now. I’m reading one chapter a day. It’s fun taking your time, of reading the book. Wondering what’s going to happen next.

Geez Charlotte likes to read about those articles in the paper? I can relate to Stacey's diet though, I've been eating too much recently and sticking to a diet is just hard.
Stacey's dad overdoes things doesn't he? I mean all those plans in nearly every book, I get that there's a lot to do in NY but it feels like sometimes he's just showing off. It's cool to see that Maureen and Mrs. Pike are friends, is it mentioned in anymore books? Stacey's comments about wanting to tell her dad about her mom on a date on page 34 is funny, I can imagine her saying that dramatically.
I like that Stacey's mom brought her the stuffed pig. The presents that Laine brought was pretty sweet too. Aww Charlotte pretending to be sick kind of funny, I wonder how she knew all of those medical terms? I guess her mom or some book around her house. I can imagine what kind of adult she'll be one day lol.
Everyone meeting in her hospital room was very sweet and fun to read about. The party at the end too.
Stacey and her parents needed to just sit down and talk. They were avoiding each other way too much and can't just get along for their daughter, both just read as very selfish and really like her mom. I really like that Stacey was able to tell them off. I'm glad that she came clean with her mom.
Side note: Charlotte and Becca look cute on the cover, Becca looks like she's getting Stacey to eat the fudge. I wonder how much the medical stuff from the time aged?

Charlotte was definitely a bit of a hypochondriac in this one, lol. Glad that the sitters knew what was up and tried to redirect it.
The girls visiting Stacey in the hospital was really sweet and it was nice to see Laine around again.
Both of her parents were insensitive to Stacey and her needs in this one. They're adults and should be able to set their own problems aside to be there for their daughter. I don't think Stacey was really asking for much. I'm glad she talked to them both at the end about it and found a better way to do it than she did while she was in the hospital.
Reading this one did help me see how far the diabetes research has gone on in the last few decades.
I liked the build up to this book, we heard about Stacey thinning out and being tired long before this book came along.
