The most exciting parts of the book were when Jessi was packing for the trip, and reading about the Pikes and Becca making dragons.

I too agree that the most interesting parts were when Jessi was packing for New York City. I liked her relationship with Quint.

Lol. Yes I actually though Jessi was being a major brat in this one.

Yeah, I'm a homebody, too, but I think by the time I was eight, my parents had impressed the idea of being a polite guest on me enough that I would have at least made an effort to pull myself together--to politely eat what I was offered, and to lie in bed quietly by myself, and to try to be grateful and pleasant. I feel a little more sympathy for Charlotte in Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook, because that was a long stay without parents for an eight-year-old, but this was two nights.

i just read this one yesterday, and it drove me crazy that jessi and quint cried racism when they got kicked out of the jewelry store. i mean, really. two kids in a JEWELRY STORE, and they told the guy to his face that they wanted him to leave them alone. how can they not think that looks suspicious?

told the guy to his face that they wanted him to leave them alone. This sounded pretty aggressive to me, and I didn't remember that, so I checked... Doesn't seem suspicious, seems like he just clammed up. And afterwards they sat and talked about what happened. I don't think they were "crying racism" at all, I can understand if the thought crossed their mind that they were being judged on appearance. They're young, impressionable, and weren't in the store for very long.

i guess they didn't exactly tell him to leave them alone. but they made it clear that they didn't want any help.

It was actually just Quint who suspected possible racism. Jessi wasn't so sure, since the guard that kicked them out was black, too.
