It was interesting and thought-provoking although weird that Jessi was weary of telling Stacey about the mystery much like Stacey and the other senior members are weary of telling their parents about other mysteries, shows how 13 can seem a lot older than 11. I enjoyed the humor of Jessi dreading that Quint's parents would hate it if she "broke up" with him and so for a long time kept avoiding doing so.
Very weird to see Claudia spelling introduce a Mary Anne chapter and that it turned out to just be an error.

I just reread this one and the Mary Anne handwriting was Claudia's and Claudia's chapter had Mary Anne's writing. Weird.

I had very low expectations for this one, and I guess that's why I liked it lol. Not a great novel by any means, but really not that bad imo. I didn't mind the ending... honestly, it was sort of obvious if you think about how cheesy the dialogue is. Plus, for some reason the Kindle of this was only $1.99, so... score!
I liked that we had an unusual friend pairing in this (Stacey and Jessi). It does make sense, though, since I can imagine them both living in NYC as adults (I can also imagine Stacey going back to Stoneybrook later in life for a slower pace). I'm glad that this is where Jessi and Quint's relationship ends, because it's probably the least realistic one in the series. 11-year-olds having a long-distance relationship, get out of here! I do like them as friends and think they work better that way.
Despite me liking the Jessi and Stacey pair, it's not really... used much? Not much development.
I hated the Becca subplot. It was stupid, I'm sorry lol. It's only for a WEEKEND. I could understand her being upset at first (I was definitely that kid), but it would last maybe one night and that's it, and not to the extent that she thought her family didn't love her anymore. She just came across as very whiny. Even Charlotte wasn't this whiny in Summer Vacation, and she was gone for two weeks (so was Becca, who had no issues with it iirc). I guess I'm just having trouble understanding why she was as mopey as she was. Then of course there's the famous Claudia and Mary Anne mistake, which was ridiculous
I'm glad she finally came around, but it really should've been earlier. I tend to like her okay in other books, but she's insufferable in this one.
I'll have to keep an eye out to see if there are more mentions of Quint. I don't remember any aside from Jessi's Big Break (one of the better Jessi books), and I remember him being annoying. It'll be awhile until I get there.
I still wonder why Jessi and Mal only had one mystery each. It's weird. I guess maybe they were too young when the mysteries began to get more serious. I don't think this one was that bad. Better than Disappearing Dogs imo.

If Squirt was too young to be left behind then Becca was too. She was only eight. Her parents really should have taken her with them instead of dumping her with the Pikes who have one too many kids as it is. That didn't make any sense to me to leave poor Becca behind. Not only that they were going to leave poor Squirt at a hotel with a stranger!! Big parenting fail.
It's creepy that Jessi had a boyfriend. She's way too young and immature to date. I didn't let my children date til they were sixteen. So is Mary Anne for that matter. Thirteen years old is too young to be committed to one boy.

Eight isn't too young to stay over at a friend's house for a weekend (I know I did that a couple of times). She went away for summer camp for 2 weeks.
