I went to afternoon kindergarden, there was actually this one kid (oen of the most annoying ones) went to one class in the morning and then another one in the afternoon. Seriously... two different teachers. (in my kindergarden yearbook from way back in she's in one picture at the bottom, on one page, and in another picture at the bottom on the page that my class was in. *eye roll* There was totally a girl in my kindergarten class that stayed for both sessions. Granted, it was under special arrangement. The girl had just moved from China and spoke no English, I guess the double session was so she could learn to interact with people in a new language.

I thought they only had a week, not 2 weeks i'm pretty sure the majority of the SS/vacation books are two weeks. it's really rare for me to ever spend that much time away from home -- most of my vacations are over a long weekend, or maybe a full week -- so that always annoys me.

Yeah, but those kids were signed up for both classes. In my town when there used to be half-day kindergarten, some of the kids who needed more structure would go to one school in the morning, then be bussed to a different class in the afternoons, but it wasn't something where a parent could just say, my kid is going to do this for two days while I take a trip to NYC, and that's what is annoying about Claire in this book. She just goes to the other class for a single day, which doesn't make any sense.

Would anyone be into reading this? Zoar and I are both planning on reading this wintery Super Special together and we'd love for others to join, especially considering that - for the most part - the consensus on this board is a thumbs up for Snowbound!

I can start today It does cool off here at night but the sun has been a blessing, no snow. I do very much enjoy Snowbound and it will be more enjoyable to read it together. ETA: I finished Snowbound last night and it is still one of my favorite stories. This time around I appreciated that every sitter but Jessi (aside from Becca talking on the phone to either Kristy and Claudia, reporting how Jessi had breakfast at the restaurant) had some interaction with their family. I know I've said this before but since for the most part the girls did have good family relationships, that would have been nice to develop a tiny bit more in the books. For Kristy's story, I'm still not a rat fan but (I did read Karen's Mystery last night) it was so funny (I would have done the same thing or stayed elsewhere) that Nannie wore those high boots. I do still wish the 4 Investigators had made another appearance and absolutely loved how David Michael got Emily, Jr a mini Christmas Tree. I do realize these comments are more about the LS book than Snowbound. Back to Snowbound, I did read through most all of this thread and there was a lot of talk on how Watson could have driven Bart home. For the first time ever, I had the thought of wondering what Bart's parents thought and if they considered driving to Watson's. It sounded like it was good they didn't but it would have been great having even a few sentences from their POV. Claudia, I think was one of my favorites except I still feel awful for Chewy and don't understand first of all how he became locked in the basement and second of all how Claudia and her mom could not have heard or seen him when they thoroughly checked the house and called for him. Maybe they didn't think to open the basement door? The other thing is I know Claudia put food out for the pets but we never read about them either coming to eat it or being more interested in the girls' dinners. I'm sure they did come and eat and then Myriah and Gabbie play tag with Socks and later say goodnight to him and RC. Chewy was mysteriously (to us) missing during all this. It was exciting how Claudia stayed overnight at the Perkins. It was so sweet when Mrs. Kishi came over and Claudia was so happy to see her. Often times, Claud's parents do come across as very distant and hard to talk to (to me) and I wish Mrs. Kishi had stayed and think she should have if not just for Laura. I also love how Claudia camped out at Stacey's--good friend. Mal and MA's was humorous and ITA with the many other comments that Claire should have gone to Myriah or even Suzi Barrett's house after morning Kindergarten. Logan saving the day on his ski's was funny and nice, too. Oh and when Richard came over to check on MA, I know he must have driven but it almost sounded like he walked--no car mentioned. I don't understand why after a marathon day in NY (as planned) Mrs. Pike would want to run to the grocery store upon coming home. She completely should have gone shopping beforehand. I also had the thought of how interesting it might have been had Mal been allowed to accompany her parents the way she wanted to. Would MA and another BSC member have had the job? Something different to think about. Best part of Dawn's is still how Jeff ordered French fries, hash browns, and toast for breakfast at the hotel--love it. I did also think Carter the runaway toddler sounded cute. I was glad Dawn and Sharon stayed at the airport! I felt awful for Richard and I hope (would think) back in CA, Jack must have been so worried. I do wonder if Jeff was able to call his Dad from the hotel. I hope so. Stacey and her mom did have quite an adventure and thank goodness for Mr. Schiavone. I still have never lived in snow and have only seen real snow I think twice in Yosemite and possibly a few times in the mountains as a kid on a day trip so the storm I'm sure reads worse to me than it was. I can understand because the full force had not yet hit, Maureen thinking maybe she could outrun it home. Reading about Stacey at the mall overnight would have made a great BSC tale. If nothing else as someone else posted, Stacey and her mom should have gotten some food to go before leaving the mall. I love the Schiavones house and it did sound so fairy-tale like and warm, it was too bad they never made another appearance. Jessi at the dance school? I'm glad she was safe there and that Quint managed to make the trek too. He really should have stayed at the train station and we never do find out if Mr. Ramsey spent the night at his office. Oh ITA with others how the dance teachers could have been more kid friendly and helpful. What a great story and I do wish it had lasted an extra day still. Sending some CA sun to all of you in snow and please stay safe and no back road driving!

^ I felt bad for Chewy, too. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been barking his head off in the basement, since he was such a hyper dog.

I've probably mentioned this but if you never read the BSC before - and just looked at the cover - you'd probably think that Mary Anne, Margo and Claire were sisters and Mallory was their slightly homely, college babysitter. I just finished teaching 9-10 year olds and they look NOTHING like Mal does on the cover.
I always wondered what swear word Sharon says in the car. I'm assuming it's s*** or f***.
In regards to Bart walking home, in another book, isn't it mentioned how he lives in the street behind Watsons? Granted, sleeping over isn't really that big of a deal.
I assumed Richard walked.
Jessi and Quint's 11-year-old-romantic-evening together, where he meets her and sweeps her up in her arms, is pretty hilarious considering the circumstances. He was like all Prince Charming and such - walking to her ballet school.
When Sharon mentions that Dawn is picking up Mary Anne's bad habits by worrying, I wanted to say, "Girrrl! Didn't you read about your daughter in New York, New York!?" haha

I have to think it's S***. That's a little more common andin fact it's in *Back to the Future*, which Kristy and Bart are watching in the same book.
