well, first off i think he's a jerk. i think often girls will blame the other girl in these situations, not the guy. which is messed up even though i've done it too.

Penny Lane - The guy DOES sound like a jerk. I wouldn't go near him!

That is horrible Penny Lane. My best friend and I were in a somewhat similar situation.

I don't know, I can understand both Mal and Stacey's POV. I mean, when you're 11, you probably think that dating older guys is cool [That's if you're actually into dating. I sure as hell wasn't at 11. But then Mal has a bf so...]
But then, this guy gave Stacey her 1st kiss. And dumped her! I think it totally makes sense that she wouldn't really want any of her friends around him- and not because she's jealous. I wasn't really sure why Dawn, MA, etc couldn't see it that way at all.
On a side note, I loved how Stacey and Dawn started gossiping as soon as they got together in Sea City. it seemed so...normal.
And finally- question: at the end in Buddy's letter, he said Stacey and Mrs B were having serious discussions about something. What was it exactly?

^ Maybe about Mrs. Barrett's behavior? She could have recgonized that she'd been difficult to be around and was apologizing to Stacey.

I haven't read this book yet but I just started now. At first I thought the entire bsc was going to be down Sea City. Then I got this impression that it was going to be another ordinary Sea City trip and I was incredibly angry and disappointed.
Then I read Dawn's letter
And now I'm so excited!!!!

I just finished reading this one, and I can honestly say that I really liked it. Not in a snarky kind of way, but just because it genuinely brought back great memories for me.
I live in southeast Pennsylvania, so I have memories of the Jersey shore/boardwalk from when I was growing up, and there were little things in the book that really captured the mood. I was seriously feeling nostalgic for the boardwalk and miniature golfing.
Also, when I was growing up I went to vacations many summers in the outer banks of North Carolina. We had several close calls with hurricanes, and one year we did need to evacuate our beach house on the island and go to a hotel on the mainland. That was such an exciting, great memory for me – I remember swimming in the pool at the hotel while it was thundering and lightning up a storm outside, and then renting Jaws that night to watch in the hotel since we had no beach. This book really made me remember what a wonderful memory that was (even if we didn’t do anything as exciting as staying in a school over night).
Oh, and the cover: I spent a long time looking at it, and there is no way that Jessi could be positioned in the air like that. I guess it’s supposed to look like the BSC is forming a pyramid, in which case I would guess they want us to think that Jessi’s knees are on the backs of Dawn and Stacey? But Dawn and Stacey are standing up practically straight, which would have made it impossible for Jessi’s knees to be on their backs. And there’s no way her knees are on Kristy's or Logan’s backs, unless her thighs are like four feet long. She’s just floating in mid-air.
And since some people seem to like the age inconsistencies: On page 40 the author states that Buddy is 7-years-old, and six pages later on page 46, Buddy is now 8-years-old.
Also, the book states that Marilyn and Carolyn couldn't come to Mary Anne and Dawn's Mini-Camp Day at the Farm, yet on page 58, Marilyn is heard yelling "Ew" about something on that particular day at camp.

Maybe Jessi wanted to impress everyone with her great ballet moves, and that's why she's in mid-air

This book made me find Toby creepy. An 11 year old and a 15 year old? Total ew, and never happens. The hurricane part was really exciting for me. As a kid, I would have thought it was so cool to stay in a big gym during a hurricane. Sea city sounded so fun in this, I wish in real life one of my friends' parents invited me and a bunch of others to their vacation home. Though I guess the BSC were all like more free child care. There's a major thunderstorm with extreme hail and wind right now, so i've got hurricanes on the brain.

Oh, and I think it depends on the friend and situation. I don't think Mallory should have gone out with Toby though because he's way older, not because he used to like Stacey. I think it depends on the friend and situation too. If you meet the person because it if your friends boyfriend and then date them, that's a big no no, but if they get together because they met at a party you threw, and you knew him for a long time before and were good friends or something, then I think it's okay. I think who breaks up with who also plays into it. But, I do agree that Mallory shouldn't have gone out with Toby because he was so much older. I'm surprised her parents let her! They won't let her wear sparkles but she can date someone 4 years older! Tsk tsk.

^ I think it was mostly because of the 4 year age difference that it was bad. When you're an adult, ok, but 11 and 15 = wrong. Mallory's parents do seem pretty lenient to me~! ;D
I wouldn't have had an issue if it was just that he used to like Stacey, it's more that I'm pretty sure Mallory knew what he did to Stacey, and I think she'd have better taste than that.
I liked how she realized Ben was the one for her in the end, though.

And yeah, I did feel bad for Stacey because Toby had really hurt her, but I also think she was worried for Mallory getting hurt too.

When Stacey asked to look in Mal's shopping bags and is like "wowww...innnteresting, are these things for your sisters?" she is kind of insulting her bff's fashion sense, since Claudia helped Mal pick out the stuff. You know Claud would wear flamingo barrettes and unusual pins/buttons on her shirt.
Yeah, I think so too. Gunshots, murders...why are you telling that stuff to four year olds?
There are so many Wizard of Oz references in this book.

When I found out that the hurricane on its way is Hurricane Bill, obviously the first thing I thought of was this book.
