What didn't you like about the book, oldhickory? it's nothing in particular. i just think hawaii is really over-hyped, and reading about everyone's experience is a reminder that sometimes vacations suck.

^Haha, yes, sometimes they do! I haven't read this one in a really long time. I like the part when Abby is having a hard time getting out of bed early in the morning. I so related to that.

I just read this one for the first time. It bothered me that not only did Mary Anne WANT to babysit during her trip, but the teachers LET her. The teachers let a stranger pick her up and take her to their home. ALONE. Seriously?

To me, this book was both boring and weird. The best part that I wish had been better/further developed was Kristy and Mal back home in Stoneybrook. I hated that Jessi got to go but Mal didn't. If we had gotten to see a more interesting side of Jessi, that might have been one thing but we didn't. The diary to Mal was plain rude. Too bad we never saw Mal's reaction to this lovely "gift." Did we? The "weird" factor was more of a feeling, probably because I just didn't get caught up in the story. I actually enjoyed the subplot and wish there was more to it, too. Or it was a subplot in a different book so that we could read more about it without taking away from the Hawaii chapters. We didn't read about Jessi giving Mallory the book, but Mallory did write a thank you letter to Jessi and said "thank you" 6 times and said she would write "thank you" 1,000,000 times, but her dad would get mad at her for wasting paper. She also said she would keep it the rest of her life, so it seems that she loved the book.

, I guess Mal did like it. Poor Mal. I agree that the subplot might have been better in a different book. It might have eventually made for a "new" Mal/Kristy chapter 2 remark!

Of course Mal loved the book. Jessi could blow her nose and give Mal the dirty kleenex and Mal would be all "Thank You, Jessi, for being my best friend!"

^Love the "endearment." ;D
I am not a confrontation fan, but wish Mal had gotten even a little angry at the "gift." She would have been entitled too. Not necessarily at the "gift"itself but at the big deal that was made of it. I just wished Mal stood up better for herself in general.

I didn't notice until this book that Logan (who writes in all caps) uses lowercase i's at the beginning of words - like "i'm." I don't like that.

Just re-read and liked the very end when both Stacey's parents met her at the airport. It sounded like all 3 spent that night at the same place, too (Maureen and Stacey's house)? It would have been nice reading about Ed and Maureen, learning from their behavior in #43, and coming together for Stacey's sake in this one.
I also got a kick out of seeing the BSC T shirts. It would have been nice had Mal been able to go but someone else, anyone else, hadn't. Just once that girl should have had a more positive storyline.

If it's any condolence, the lady that yelled at Mallory earlier in the book ended up needing hers and the BSC's help.

^I guess that was something. Too bad Mrs. Wellfleet never was heard from again. It actually would have been interesting had she run into Mrs. P and told her all about Mal and the BSC. I'd have enjoyed hearing Mrs. P stand up to her. I like to think she would have anyway.

I would have loved if Mal had ended up taking care of Mrs. Wellfleets kids! I hated that MA and Claudia babysat on vacation. No one in their right mind would do that.
I thought the best part of the book was the Mal/Jenny/Wellfleet thing. It was so funny!

^Me, too. No, teacher in her right mind would allow a 13 year old to go off with some strange family to sit either!
I wonder if the name "Wellfleet" was a dig at how well she fled and was never heard from again?
