I found a second hand copy of MA and the Brunettes.
Where to start???
Honestly, this stuff is almost like a parody/satire... could Logan be any more of a DORK? And wasn't MA supposed to be almost as short as Kristy? Why is she um, the tallest of the group? And why doesn't Claudia look Japanese? The girl who played Kristy looked ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for the part and they captured her overbearing dictator tough-chick attitude perfectly, but the whole thing was so FORCED.
I have an old copy of Dawn and the Haunted House, which is terrible in it's own right, but MA and the Brunettes is pure comedy!

I always thought Kristy was perfect to as far as looks. MA was nothing liked I pictured her (well, none of them were). She didn't even really fit the description in the books.

i've always loved kristy's actress as well. dawn on the show looked a lot like dawn on the covers to me. so did mallory. mary anne, claudia, and stacey... ugh. Jessi looked like a man on the covers so it's a good thing the actress playing her didn't.

^ but the Jessi character on the TV shows always sounded blocked up, like she had a cold or something.
I thought Dawn looked good for the part. And Mallory looked pretty accurate too. MA probably looked the worst - nothing like any description in the books and just... ugh.
Claudia's voice bugged me, it sounded like it was breaking or something. Stacey from the movie probably looked more accurate, but then Kristy from the movie looked all wrong.

I thought that Kristy on the tv show was dead on based on looks, but the one in the movie was wrong.
I thought the tv show Mary Anne was completely wrong. She was like 6 feet tall! I think that Rachel Leigh Cook was the best they could have done with casting Mary Anne in the movie.
Was Claudia even ASIAN in the tv show?? I don't see how they pulled that one out of their butts. I wasn't a fan of the movie Claudia either, but at least she was Asian haha
I actually sort of liked both Stacey's. She totally had the perm on the TV show...and I just thought she fit. The movie choice wasn't bad either. She looked way older than 13, but she was "sophisticated", and really only 14 in real life.
The tv show Dawn was a good choice as well, simply because of the descriptions in the books and on the covers. Too bad her voice bugged me. As for the movie? Alex Mack will never be Dawn Schafer.
Both Mallory's were awesome as well!
The tv show Jessi didn't fit what I thought Jessi would be at all. Everything about her annoyed me.

I think we're all in agreement that the TV Kristy was dead on. The movie version, ehhh not so much. Red hair? C'mon.
TV Dawn looked alright for the part but the New Jersey accent killed me. For some reason I liked Larissa O as Dawn in the movie, but that might just be because I loved Alex Mac as a kid and when I saw that she was playing Dawn (my favorite at the time) in the BSC movie I was in heaven. Might've just been the script though, but she didn't capture the forcefull firey-ness that is Dawn. The TV one did do that better I must say, Larissa's Dawn was too sweet.
TV Mary Anne was so wrong. Even as an 8 year old child I knew that. Movie Mary Anne was better.
TV Claudia sucked. And yes she hardly seemed asian. Maybe like half asian half European. Movie Claudia didn't do much for me either. Both were horrible actresses.
I liked TV Stacey better than movie Stacey. I dunno I always thought she was really pretty for some reason. And she had big fluffy blonde hair!
TV Jessi seemed too old to be playing an 11 year old, movie Jessi was better but only had like 3 lines. "They're dropping like flies". Hahha
I loved both Mallorys. TV Mallory looked exactly like I would imagine Mal to look, movie Mal was pretty close. Would have been better without all of the ties and suit things. Movie Mal I guess was better because she actually looked 11. TV Mal could've been about 15.
I have "Stacey Takes a Stand" on VHS. The dance they do for the fathers... Creepy. I watched all of these eps over and over on Disney, but I think my favorite was whatever that one was when Dawn likes a guy but it turns out he likes Mary Anne. HAHAHA the drama. I think that was the one where they reunite the sisters, but I'm not sure.
Karen wasn't featured in the movie was she? I always thought TV Karen was kind of cute, I liked that scene where she and DM got married.
That reminded me of another part in the "Babysitters Remember" episode where the girls go into Claudia's kitchen for a drink and Claudia opens the cupboard for a glass and WHOA pulls out Mimi's special tea cups. That ALWAYS bothered me, I mean, doesn't Claudia go into that cupboard every day for a drinking glass? Wouldn't she see the cups there every time?

I feel like the movie Kristy only got the part cause she was Sissy Spacek's daughter. I always felt that Kristy should be a really pretty girl with dark brown hair, not a plain redhead.

I never got why movie Kristy didn't have a ponytail. It was a big part of her character in the books and would have been an easy thing to do in the movie.

i loved TV Kristy cos she was so right for the role and probably one of the better actors of the group.
what bugged me was that neither stacey nor dawn had blue eyes on the show. i remember when i was little thinking Claudia was soooooooo pretty. haha, i agree that she looked eurasian. and Mary Anne was so tall, so was Claudia. dawn looked too old. stacey was pretty good, she was pretty despite her mammoth hair.
the tv show was so lame. and logan was so fugly in the one with the brunettes. so was that marci girl, eww.

I thought Claudia looked asian Alot of asians don't look hard-core asian...i.e Lucy Lui etc I wouldn't say she looked Japanese though. I'd say she looks mixed if anything though. Apparently, book claudia didn't either (look asian-asian). Why else would she think there was a possibility that she was half white. But knowing claudia....Some dude in 'Claudia and the perfect boy' tells her she looks native americain I've seen one video with Logan featuring in it (the boysitters). And boy, is he camp. And he has no southern accent. Stacey's mom seems to though. In 'Dawn and the haunted house', Mallory looks like an awkward boy. Stacey's hair I like it though Mary-Anne is a giant.

I completely agree. I remember I read an article where the director was talking about casting the movie and said something like, "We had all the girls, except Kristy. And I thought, 'doesn't Sissy Spacek have a thirteen year old daughter?'" WTF? That is not how you cast a movie, Melanie Mayron.

That was also one of the big selling points to the movie when it came out. A lot of the press mentioned that it had Sissy Spacek's daughter in it. Schuyler Fiske's red hair and freckles were so not right for Kristy, but I did think she was cute in "Orange County"

Ha. I know that Sissy Spacek's daughter is what would get me into a theater.

I don't really think it helped any. Maybe if it were the equivalent of a Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, it would help, but Sissy Spacek + some dude=no help.

YEP. I was barely able to think of her as Bianca in 10 Things I Hate About You.
