I don't like that Mary Anne is so tall in the tv series, and she doesn't look like how I picture her- but I agree that she does carry out her part very well. I haven't seen the movie, but I looked at pictures from the movie on dibbly-fresh.com. I had to admit that movie MA's looks weren't the best for that part, either. They were lacking in something- somehow, while the tv MA may be too big, she at least "looks" sweeter somehow. I can sense that I would agree with what you guys are saying, that tv MA's shyness seems more natural and less forced.

I was also looking at Kristy from the movie, and I thought tv Kristy was MUCH better. I don't know how many would agree with me, but movie Kristy reminds me A LOT of tv Mary Anne as far as looks go. I actually got them mixed up at one point!

I might be in the minority but I didn't mind Movie Kristy, though I liked Avriel Hillman a lot better, lookswise and acting wise...but I think Schuyler (movie kristy) did fine... movie Kristy's part... was... well... DIFFERENT than those in the shows... she didn't have to play an emotional part for the most part...

Just watched Stacey Takes a Stand for the first time in a while... I liked it. .. and I'm glad they featured the Barretts... Buddy was cute.. but Suzy and Marnie didn't do much adn I wish they had done more. .. especially Suzy since she's such a ... CHARACtER . in the books. they were cute too though.

I totally agree. I got kind of a snobby vibe from her instead of her being quiet and sensitive.

Okay just rewatched Claudia and teh Mystery of the Secret Passage, and was left with a cheesy warm fuzzy feeling. It was the first vid I ever saw, so it's remained one of my favs for that factor.

Serious HUGE question though. They used a totally different person to portray Charlotte. (This was the first time watching it that I got a glimpse of the kid's face). Sure she didn't have any lines and was only in that one scene at the end, but that will forever bug me because Gina Gallagher who played Charlotte in all those other episodes is not in this one at all.

oh dear, I'm such a bad nitpicker. I was rewatching claudia adn the mystery of the secret passage (again) and sometihng caught my eye. Claudia must've done the spelling no the bulletin board because above one of the pictures is written "JEWELERY STORE"
it's... Jewelry. To make suer I wasn't completely losing it I looked it up on dictionary.com Did have an alternate spelling for British... Jewellery.... but one, that's not the way it was spelled in the picture adn two...
It's the united states.

Well inmy opinion i thought the tv series was much better cast dawn was spot on but in the movie she was not blond enough.
Mary anne being tall also bugged me in the series tho the actress played the part really well and rachel cook did not seem a mary-anne type to me.
Both kristys were great tho avriel was better again and as for the staceys im really not sure theey were both good but not quite how i imagined stacey to be

hi! one question: do any of you know what the actreses who played Claudia and Janine in the TV series were called?

You can find all sorts of TV info at IMDb.com. Claudia was played by Jeni Winslow. There wasn't a listing for Janine. If anyone knows which episodes she appeared in then maybe they could check those end credits to see if she's listed.

Totally agree. I liked the movie a lot, but I remember being disappointed, since the girls didn't really seem like the characters they were playing. I also remember wondering, as a kid, why they didn't just use the TV show cast for the movie. The TV cast portrayed the characters much better, it seemed. Maybe because the show was just as cheesy as the books? ;D The TV show just seemed to capture the essence of the series better than the movie did.

I never thought about Rachel Leigh Cook's Mary Anne as coming across as cold, but you are all totally right. And I really didn't like Movie Claudia. She was really bitchy throughout the entire thing. TV Claudia was quirkier and was much more similar to how I imagined Claudia to be than Movie Claudia.
