When you're 11 years old, they're kind of the same thing...

I find Jessi to be boring. I always skip her chapters in super specials. I HATE when the club and Jessi stressed the fact that she's black. Alright, shut up with that already.

I thought Jessi was boring too. Maybe that's why most of the BSC families weren't "normal" - normal was boring! Kristy had her dad who was a jerk. MA had a dead mom. Stacey and Dawn's parents were divorced. Claudia had issues with her sister. Mallory has a million siblings. Jessi's family was BORING.

I watched the movie Good Hair this weekend and it made me wonder what was going on with the Ramsey women's hair. I'm betting Jessi and Becca were natural and Aunt Cecelia had a weave. Thoughts on Mrs. Ramsey? She didn't exactly freak out at the thought of a pool, lol.

I think of Aunt Cecelia as having a perm that she wore pulled back into tight bun, because that is how the books portrayed it. Jessi menitioned having to wear her hair back for dancing, so I guess she had to same but I can see her switching to locks when she was older. I don't think the ghostwriters really thought about that sort of thing in regard to the Ramseys, though.

Did anyone else notice how Scholastic seemed more eager to shell out Jessi books over Mallory books? (especially later in this series). For some reason, that was very obvious to me, even as a kid.

Days later, another thought about Jessi...
Someone previously mentioned racial stereotyping and that has crossed my mind. If you think about it, Jessi was almost perfect. She was some ballet superstar at 11, good student, part-time babysitter, mystery solver, pet casanova, sign language guru, cancer patient wish giver, gold medalist, and more!
And I do like her in the books, but I think it's almost as if you're forced into liking her. She seems like a mini adult in her books, which is maybe more clear than the rest because she's 11. I never read 11 year old.
Also, haven't you noticed how -- in the redone versions of the books -- Jessi (and Dawn's) faces have been completely changed (meaning they were ugly before). Check out Superbrat, Babysitter (for sure) and also Dawn Saves the Planet (for sure) ... there might be some others.
Finally, I wondered for a moment - how can Jessi and Mallory be friends? I guess they were a bit "nerdish" with their love of horses? and reading? But Jessi is so TALENTED and AMAZING in the books. I feel as if they didn't give her much depth because they were afraid of stereotyping.

OK I think I am the only one who likes to talk about Jessi lately (haha).
Has anyone noticed that Jessi narrates quite a few Super Specials and Super Mysteries (as opposed to Mallory, for example)?

I noticed and I thought that it was strange that Mallory got no super special or super mystyer while Jessi did. Was Mallory that unpopular among readers?

^ Agree. Jessi's handwriting is also annoying to read in large doses. Also, Stacey and Mary Anne only got one book each (if I can remember correctly). Mary Anne = Winter vacation; Stacey = Summer vacation. Claud got Haunted House (I can't think of anymore). And yet I think Abby, Jessi, Kristy and Dawn got the most. Can anyone verify?

Here's a list of who got what super special/super mystery:
Kristy: Baby-sitters on Board, Snowbound, Shadow Lake, The Baby-sitters Remember, Baby-sitters Beware
Mary Anne: Winter Vacation
Dawn: Island Adventure, California Girls, Here Come the Bridesmaids, BSC in the USA
Stacey: Summer Vacation
Claudia: New York, New York, Haunted House
Jessi: Starring the Baby-sitters Club, Aloha Baby-sitters, European Vacation, Christmas Chiller
Abby: Fright Night
The Sea City super special had no main narrator.
Kristy has the most super specials, which is five. Dawn and Jessi each had four while Claudia has two. Stacey, Abby and Mary Anne each had one and Mallory had no super specials.
