^ I thought she hated Kristin, too. Reminds me of the BSC movie when Cokie says, "Hello...Kristin." And Kristy responds, "Who let you out of the bat cave, Marguerite?"

Jessi's the only one I can see going back to her full name as she got older. "Jessi" is perhaps too cutesy for a competitive adult dancer. for some reason i really like the idea of jessi using her full name. but i could also eventually see stacey growing into anastasia, and finding it less embarrassing as she gets older.

^I have this funny book called Don't Name Your Baby, which is like a baby name book, but instead it tells you what's wrong with picking certain names. The entry for Stacey (Stacy) is
"One of those unfortunate names that does not have an 'adult' version. To move up the corporate ladder, most Stacys change their name to Hank. Those who choose to keep their name, end up stuck in low paying, dead-end jobs at Chuck E. Cheese and Toys-R-Us."
I can see Stacey possibly wanting to have a successful corporate job as an adult, so maybe you're correct that she'll neep to drop the 'Stacey' in favor of 'Anastasia' when she gets older...

I don't think "Anastasia" is a corporate name either. It sounds like a fake name that a stripper would give herself.

I never got the sense Kristy hated her full name, but if anyone has examples... I subbed for a girl named Anastasia. I expected someone much more mature

I thought Stacey was soooo cool when I was little and I wanted to be just like her, so one time when I was on the playground when I was like 8-years-old I told my friends that my full first name was actually Anastasia. They were like "Yeah, right."

^Aw I like the name Anastasia. It reminds me of Anastasia Krupnik.
There are probably numerous nicknames to get from Anastasia if Stacey’s looking for something corporate… Ann, Ana…

I'm almost surprised Stacey never mentioned THE Anastasia.

^I could see Stacey liking her full name a little bit better for that exact reason. In Russian, Anastasias are called "Nastya." kind of sounds different in English, though. LOL.

In Russian, Anastasias are called "Nastya." kind of sounds different in English, though. There's a US gymnast named Nastia Liukin. For the longest time I thought it was "Natsya" because I didn't know why anyone would name their little girl something with "Nasty" in it. But yeah, her parents are from Russia and her real name is Anastasia, so it all makes sense.

I guess Nastya and Anastasia are pretty similar because I've heard Stacia (Staw-cia) as a nickname and it sounds similar to Nastya.

It's a shame, because there were some good/interesting aspects to Jessi's character that could've been used to develop her. She likes the limelight, she's easily jealous and most of all, she's proud (as in conceited). That's an interesting combination right there, far more so than 'the black girl'. She's also extremely dedicated to her ballet and (unrealistic moves for her age aside) has buckets of potential.
Jessi's Big Break was my favourite book by far.

The "Jessi's black but we don't care!" thing has always annoyed me but I think it says more about the person saying it than Jessi. For one thing, it seems like the speaker is protesting too much. From everything I know, if you make a big deal about how you don't care about something, you do care. Secondly, it seems so self-congratulating like "Look at me, aren't I such a wonderful person? I'm not racist." I think that this is more the result of bad and lazy writing than the babysitters actually doing anything wrong though. The writers want to show that the babysitters aren't racist and don't care that Jessi is black so they have them actually say it when the point would be demonstrated a lot better if it was just stated that Jessi was black and nothing more was said about it.
As for Jessi herself, she was probably the sitter I was most neutral too. I didn't have much of an opinion of her whatsoever.
