I recently finished Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook and I noticed the Ellen Miles wasn't really feeling Jessi, I guess. She always had her off to ballet practice. Which got me thinking: that was pretty realistic. If Jessi was as good as she's claimed, she wouldn't really have time for the BSC. With BSC meetings, sitting, school, homework, ballet, friends, family, getting up at 5am, I'm surprised Jessi didn't die of a stroke at 11!

i don't think she ever mentioned it, but i always felt that jessi was in the bsc for friends more than anything else. she didn't have the same passion for sitting as she did for ballet, and that's why her ballet books are so much more interesting to me. in the end she even chose her friends over ballet and i think that says a lot about much she needed mallory.

Yeah, I'm working on a fanfic where the girls start 9th grade and I'm having Jessi go to Dance NY because the Club has broken up and Mal's at Riverbend, and Jessi would have been all alone at SMS. I like Jessi's Horrible Prank, where it seems like she has other, non-BSC or Mallory friends. Unfortunately, they dropped that after that book.

Did it ever bother anyone else that Jessi was listed as "Jessica Ramsey" on the back of the books? Kristy and Stacey weren't listed as Kristin and Anastasia, so why would they list Jessi by her full, never-used-in-conversation first name?

Maybe Jessi wanted to sound more "mature"... you know since she's just a sixth grader and all.

Maybe they thought someone looking at a back cover for the first time would think "Jessi" was a guy?

Jessi's the only one I can see going back to her full name as she got older. "Jessi" is perhaps too cutesy for a competitive adult dancer.

Yes, I'm aware of the different spellings, all I meant was maybe Scholastic thought of the possibility.
I could see Kristy wanting to use Kristin. She didn't seem to be embarrassed by it like Stacey with her full name.

My theory is that Scholastic initially wanted to use everyone's full name for the back of the books, but then worried that the young kids or new readers wouldn't make the connection with Kristy=Kristin or Stacey=Anastasia. They'd just see the back of the books and go "Who's Anastasia?" Most people probably however know that Jessi is a nickname for Jessica so they didn't bother to change it.

^ That's true. They probably would have had to do Kristin (Kristy) Thomas and Anastasia (Stacey) McGill, which would have been slightly confusing and cost more at the printer

I could see Kristy wanting to use Kristin. She didn't seem to be embarrassed by it like Stacey with her full name. I thought Kristy hated Kristin? I don't blame Stacey, her name was a mouthful. No kid needs a five syllable name. (That's how her dad pronounced it on the TV show anyway.)
