I subbed for some 5th grade kids today and we were in the library. There were three whole (small) shelves of hardcover BSC books. It made me smile. Right in the middle of the room too, so I hope the kids are reading them

Some kids check out BSC from the local library.

We had a book drive where I work, and there were a few BSC and LS books brought in. I was REALLY tempted to take them, but they were titles I already had.

Old thread, but I’m excited to see the series in circulation, I recently started working at a library nearby, and I’ve been checking in copies of the graphic novels and recently Jessi’s Secret Language. I thought they had gotten rid of all the old books, but they’re still circulating! Plus I’ve noticed all the ebooks are being read with the online catalog.
I guess the Netflix show has been doing it’s job getting people into the books.

I think it was the graphic novels that did it. That and re-issuing things with modern covers. Kids can be snooty like that. Who wants a musty old book that their mom may have read, but make it look like everything else on the shelf and maybe they'll consider it.

I know of a few kids reading the original BSC series.
Some of them read the graphix books and became curious enough to order the original BSC from Amazon or buy them from a used bookstore.

I was born in 1999 and despite my school library having a big collection it was really hard for me to find anyone who read them, in fact I remember my school librarian joking "we keep the collection for you!" I never heard of anyone outside of school into them either. I think the graphic novels has bought back some popularity though

That’s a good point about the graphic novels, I nearly forgot about them lol. I was 12 when they first started coming out. If I didn’t find the original books before, I might have found them that way.

Double posting but I saw more books being checked out. I wish I could meet the people reading them.

My older kids (aged 7 and 8) read and enjoy the BSC books. My husband went to the library a few months back and came back with Karen's Roller Skates (the graphic novel)as he thought they'd enjoy it. He didn't realise it was a BSC book (he knows all about my obsession!) and once the kids read it, they were hooked.
So I pulled out my old collection of books - not a complete collection, as sadly I got rid of it when I was about 12, but what I managed to find in op shops in my 20s - and have been reading them aloud, particularly for my daughter (my son comes in when he hears laughter as he likes the funny bits. He tends to read them more by himself). They've been reading the graphic novels at the same time. So right now we're reading Kristy's Big Day, and my daughter had just read the GN beforehand, so when I get to certain points in the book she says "oh I know what's going to happen here!"
The GNs are clearly very popular because at our local library you can only borrow them for a week (normal books you can borrow for a month). My daughter is also excited that I told her the new season of the Netflix show is coming out soon. We don't normally have Netflix but I got it just for a month so I could watch the BSC show, so if we get it again for the new season she can watch the first season again with me. By that time we might have read most of the books that will be covered in season 2.

I think the TV show has definitely contributed to a resurgence! My friends 10 yo is obsessed with buying and reading them (she was in awe of my complete collection 😬) and now you can’t find them anywhere!

Now I want to revise all my old BSC fanfics...I'd keep their teenage years in the 1990s...I like to think of them as growing older and being in their thirties today with kids of their own.

That's awesome, she hasn't asked to borrow any of them yet has she lol. I'm glad that they have them all over the place to look for copies.

I so hope this show is released on DVD soon!
I don't have Netflix and I don't want to pay a subscription fee.
I've been re-reading several of the books again.
