Did the World Series in this one consist of more than one game? I remember that the one in #38 didn't. I'm not sure Kristy has a handle on the meaning of the word "series."

I just checked and on page 13 Kristy tells us the series will be the best of five games. Page 11 reminds me of something I wanted to ask you, Wanderingfrog. I know you are re-reading in order right now. I might start over soon myself. Everytime I do I always mean (but lol forget probably right around this book when I want to run screaming back to #1) to keep an eye out for when exactly the Perkinses disappeared. In this book, I saw on page 11 Gabbie is at a Krusher's practice. I think her family has only been mentioned as needing a sitter over the last 20 or so books? Myriah and Gabbie are not my favorite clients, I just have wondered when they vanish for good. Maybe you can keep an eye out for that if you wouldn't mind. Thank you.

i read this one earlier this week, but i skipped all the dru chapters because she bores and frustrates me. mrs porter really broke my heart in the beginning, when she asked elizabeth and watson how to help dru adjust to being a divorced kid. it's been pointed out a few times throughout the series that mrs porter is actually just lonely and is subject to a lot of grief that she doesn't deserve. i hate when old people have to be alone and i really wish she'd had more company than just dru. her daughter could have come over more often, especially after mrs porter dropped everything to raise dru while dru's mom got her stuff together. i also really like the part in the first chapter where kristy is fretting about the krushers practice. shannon tries reassuring her by reminding her that it's only a game, and kristy insists in her head that it's a series, not a game. such a stickler for details :]

^ In regards to Mrs. Porter and company, in Karen's Witch, she actually has a gathering of friends over to her house, one of whom is Karen's grandmother. I got the impression from THAT book that she had a pretty active social life for her age.

Just finished this one yesterday during my reread of the series in order. Yawn yawn yawn. I never liked this book-- a big chunk of that was because I remember the day I saw it in Target in 1995 and went "WTF why did they change the covers???", so this book will always be "the first one that didn't match" to me. (Yeah, I know they rereleased them all in the weird new format, but I wasn't, and am still not going to get rid of the other 88 I've collected to try to re-buy them with different covers! F that!) Additionally, my least favorite character is Kristy and my least favorite plots are sports-related ones, so there's another two strikes against this one. I also feel like the whole plot with the diapers was completely pointless, and why couldn't they have just called themselves the Krushers anyway? Bleh. And the plotline with Dru is just weird to me, although I guess the part with the band was kind of cute.
I do like the character of Abby overall, although I realllly wish Anna had become the BSC member (or both) instead of Abby. This probably from a mostly selfish perspective as a musician myself, but even though I like Abby (I love her jokes, corny as they are, and I think she brings a lot of livelihood to the BSC), I hate reading about sports. I would have loved for Anna to become the member so we could finally have a musician in the BSC-- Shannon barely counts, since she has, like, no personality most of the time (also a shame, because I really like Shannon!).
TL;DR, I don't like this book very much and IMO its only redeeming quality is the introduction of the twins.

^ Anna could have been an associate member....something else that she and Shannon could have had in common. I would have liked to see more of their friendship!

starrynight Anna and Shannon friendship sounds like a good thing! I want fanfic of that now. Yeah, I wasn't fond of this one either. Not only was it too focused on sport, the Dirty Diapers thing was just too contrived.

I felt the exactly same way because of music being my hobby as well, and playing instruments at the time of the book release. I enjoyed her scenes so much more and also would have loved to see her and Shannon be friends. Wasn't Shannon involved in drama or music too at school? It would have been awesome seeing them collab somehow.

^I think Shannon was in a play or musical (possibly Annie Oakley or maybe it was Oklahoma)? at one time because I remember her singing notes at a BSC meeting to tune her voice and Jessi was stretching. The narrator, I think Kristy, commented on how odd that scene was to walk into or something like that. I believe this was in a super special because the majority of the girls were getting ready to go on vacation.

Kristy actually did have a handle on the word "series" in KMA, she wanted 3 games in the Krashers' World Series but Bart thought that was too much pressure for the kids and Kristy gave in because she didn't want to fight with Bart about it anymore.
